Early Learning Center Update
September 22, 2023
Start with Hello π
A Greeting from Dr. Champagne-Lee
Our "Start with Hello Week" sprit week was enjoyable for students and staff alike. We hope that our students learned some new strategies to demonstrate kindness and to help others feel welcome. Many thanks to our counseling departments and instructional staff for leading these efforts. Thank you for your continued partnership and support at home.
We hope to see many families at tonight's Community BBQ.
Educationally Yours,
Keya Champagne-Lee, Ed.D.
Elementary Principal
School Safety Drill Notifcation
Next week we will be running our semiannual school safety drill. Security drills are required under the school code and are conducted under the observation of district administration and local law enforcement. Before the drill, teachers will lead age-appropriate conversations with their classes and walk the students through the procedures. This review and practice will help to alleviate unnecessary stress or anxiety. This drill is meant to be practice only, and not stressful or scary in nature.
Reminder Community Cookout
The Annual Community BBQ is tonight!. Join us for a free BBQ from 4:30-6:30 p.m. next to Washington Field. We will have live entertainment, food, and games. This year, we are also so excited to welcome our new superintendent, Missy McTiernan!
The BBQ will be followed by PAHS football game against Upper Merion HS, starting at 7 p.m. There is free admission to this game that includes a special salute to our military and first responders.
A few reminders about entrance to the game:
- Please remember that students in grades K-8 MUST be accompanied by an adult for entrance to both the BBQ and the game.
- No bags are permitted
- No outside food/drink

Morning Arrival: New Protocol Beginning Next Week
We would like to remind our car driving families to be calm and courteous when using the car line for both drop off and pick up. Over the past week, we have seen an increase in negative and unsafe interactions in the front parking lot between drivers. The safety of our students is of the upmost importance, and we need all drivers to follow the procedures of the car line to ensure students' safety. We hope that everyone will try harder to lead with grace and be safer, more appropriate role models for all of our students while dropping and picking up our children.
Effective on Tuesday, we are implementing a new procedure to help increase safety and efficiency of the drop off process. We strongly recommend that families use the car line. If you must park, you will need to do so at the far end of the parking lot (closest to Pothouse Road). You will then escort your child down the center sidewalk to the crosswalk. You will exit the parking lot in the same way you entered. Barricades will be in place to restrict access to the front part of the lot. For obvious safety reasons, students may not be dropped off in the middle of the parking lot; please use the car line or a designated parking spot at the far end of the lot. As emphasized over the past few weeks, only families with special needs or extenuating circumstances will be permitted to access the limited visitor parking spots. We will be giving placards to families with a known/documented need. If you have been given a placard, please stay in the left lane of the car line and a staff member will guide you to a visitorβs spot. Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring the safety of everyone.
