We are looking forward to the start of the 2021-2022 school year! The first day of school for students in grades 1-9 is Friday, Aug. 6 with a 10:45 a.m. dismissal. The first full day of school for students in grades 1-12 is Monday, Aug. 9. The first full day of school for Pre-K and kindergarten students is Friday, Aug. 13. The full calendar can be found here.

Students will receive school breakfast and lunch at no cost thanks to a waiver extension from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Through the 2021-2022 school year, the USDA will reimburse the district for student meals. Additional a la carte items, such as an extra entree or snacks, will be available for purchase at full price. At this time, we are not allowing family members to eat with students in our schools.

Even though all students will receive a free breakfast and lunch this year, it is very important that families continue to complete the free and reduced meal application. Filling out the free and reduced application will assure your student does not lose benefits at the beginning of the next school year (if we are not approved for all free breakfast and lunches during the 2022-2023 school year). Please review the flyer to see why it's important to complete the application. Applications will be available at the schools when school resumes. The Tennessee Waltz Parkway (Ashland City Bypass) will be closed beginning Aug. 2 for the construction of a berm/levee on the A.O. Smith property. The construction project is expected to be completed in July 2022. The bypass will be closed past Riverbluff Park but before A.O. Smith. This closure will affect traffic in the Ashland City area and primarily at our central cluster schools. Please be advised that there will be traffic delays on all major roadways, including Highway 12 and Highway 49. We strongly encourage our families to allow for plenty of extra time in both the mornings and afternoons as they drop-off and pick-up their child(ren).

The Cheatham County Central High School Drama Club will present the musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” Aug. 5-7. This production has been a long time coming. The cast originally prepared the show for the regular spring performance of 2020, but were forced to postpone due to pandemic concerns. Each year, TCAP tests are designed to assess what our students know and what we can do to help them succeed in the future. They provide feedback about students' academic progress and how it aligns with grade-level expectations. Now families can find detailed, personalized, information about their child’s progress on the TCAP Family Portal. Families can register on the Family Portal with their student’s USID number. Use the seven-digit number found on your student's ISR and add two zeroes in front of that number. The resulting nine-digit number will enable you to create an account for your student. For example, a state ID 1234567 would become 001234567.

If you haven’t already done so, you can go ahead and purchase the needed school supplies for your student. The school supply lists for our elementary and middle schools can be found here. Our high schools will let their students know the supplies they need once school begins.

All tickets for our middle and high school athletic games and other ticketed events must be purchased through GoFan this year. There will be no gate box for cash sales at any game or event. For additional details and GoFan links for our middle and high schools, please visit here.

We are so excited to announce that art is returning to our elementary schools this year! We have hired three part-time art instructors, who will work a few days each week in our six elementary schools. There will be one art instructor in each cluster: Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy and West Cheatham Elementary School in the central; East Cheatham Elementary School and Pleasant View Elementary School in the north; and Kingston Springs Elementary School and Pegram Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School in the south. Offering art in our elementary schools is part of our five-year plan, and we are thrilled about this opportunity.

We hosted our fourth annual Stuff the Bus on July 31. Once again, the Cheatham County community stepped up to donate an incredible amount of school supplies for our students. All the supplies have been sorted and divided up among all of our schools. We appreciate Walmart and Dollar General for allowing us to collect the supplies at their businesses again this year.

One Generation Away will host a free food distribution on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 9-11 a.m. at Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy, 108 Elizabeth St. in Ashland City. This is open to all families in our community and will operate as a first-come, first-serve drive-thru distribution. Everyone is asked to stay in their vehicle and have space cleared for the food. We appreciate One Generation Away for helping our families in these challenging times.
