Spreading Kindness
Students at Centennial Elementary spread kindness by drawing images and writing encouraging words for their peers on the sidewalk outside their school.
Showcasing Science at the Middle School
The "insect project" is a long-standing tradition at Centennial Middle School (and Centennial Junior High School before that!). Students find 15 different insects for their projects, assign the insects their common names, and identify what Order (classification category) they belong to. Although the presentation is not a large part of the grade, students create amazing projects each year! The project is a tradition that helps students enjoy and appreciate the natural world around them.
As teachers, we have found that many families enjoy the time spent outdoors looking for insects with their families. Many parents spend time at conferences telling their stories of discovery. It could be parents, grandparents, siblings, or even neighbors who help students to finish their projects.--Bob Danzyl, 7th grade science teacher

From the Wellness Committee...The Impact of a Small Gesture
We know the impact of a small gesture can be significant on both the giver and receiver. In keeping with the theme of spreading kindness and making connections, here are a few ideas to help you "make someone's day!"
- Send an encouraging text to someone you know who is struggling.
- Give a compliment.
- Offer to take someone's shopping cart back for them.
- Let someone cut in front of you in line.
- Take time to genuinely thank your server.
- Drop off flowers to an older neighbor.
Research shows some people talk themselves out of random acts of kindness, thinking it won't be well-received, but that is rarely the case. So, if you think about doing something nice for someone, just do it!
