A Note from Mrs. Williams
Hello Schluter Families!
I know the news of the passing of Dr. Hicks was a shock to us all. I will always remember his servant heart and how he inspired us all to greatness for our kids. Thank you all those who reached out with words of support and kindness. It means a lot. As our district begins the selection process for a permanent superintendent, I just want to say that Schluter is strong. Northwest ISD is strong. We will continue to do amazing things for our kiddos, even during this transition.
Next week is Special Programs Night. This is a great way to learn about all of our programs that offer differentiated support for our students. If your child is served through one of our special programs, we’d love to see you there. If you think your child might benefit from one of our programs, come learn about what they have to offer. Check out the graphics below for details!
Starting next week, we are going to have a trial run of hosting lunch visitors, but without a sign-up. If you’d like to have lunch with your student, please check in as normal in the front office at your child’s lunch time.
Enjoy your weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams
Help us spread the word! Post on your community pages, tell your family and friends!
In the spirit of friendly competition, we are doing a "Beat the Bears" PTA Membership Drive from September 1st to the 30th with Berkshire Elementary!
The school with the most new PTA members during the month of September will be declared the winner! The losing school’s principal and assistant principal will have to wear the winning school’s spirit wear during assembly. Let’s make sure the Berkshire Bears are covered in PURPLE!!
In addition, the class with the most total PTA members by the end of the month will win a POPCORN PARTY!
Remember, anyone can be a member of the PTA (parents, grandparents, siblings, students, teachers, staff, and community members).

Let's Talk About Lunch!
Do you know what is included in an elementary and middle school meal? Watch the video and learn more!
You may be surprised how much is available to your student every day for lunch!
Free & Reduced Lunch Program
While the federal government subsidized a free meal program that Northwest ISD implemented for all elementary and middle school students last year, this program was not funded for 2022-2023. This means families who meet income requirements should apply for the free and reduced-cost meal program if they believe their children should qualify for these meals.
Students in this program receive one breakfast and one lunch combo meal daily for their free or reduced-cost price. Families can apply online or print out a paper copy of the form. Those who previously were accepted into the program will have a 30-day grace period to reapply.

- WHAT'S HAPPENING IN NISD -
Remembering Dr. David Hicks
Those who knew Dr. Hicks remember a man who formed meaningful relationships, always included others and believed educating children was a calling to leave a positive mark on students' lives. In lieu of flowers, the Hicks family has requested donations be made to the Dr. David Hicks Memorial Scholarship Fund managed by the Northwest ISD Education Foundation. Dr. Michael Griffin Named Acting Superintendent
With the move, Northwest ISD’s leadership structure maintains a strong foundation, placing an experienced district leader at the helm until the board selects a permanent superintendent. Dr. Griffin will assume her new responsibilities immediately.
Food distribution will be in the parking lot next to NISD Stadium until 11 a.m. Food and supplies are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested in volunteering at the monthly food markets? Sign up today!
Registration now open for annual NISD Reindeer Romp
The event consists of two races, a 5K and 1-mile fun run. The latter race begins at 8:30 a.m., while the longer race begins at 9 a.m. Registration costs $20 per student and $25 per adult. Registrants can take part in either race or both races, if desired.
To register for the Reindeer Romp or learn more about the event, visit www.nisdreindeerromp.com.
Background checks delayed following court backlogs
Please be aware that because of backlogs with court systems, background checks for volunteering are taking additional time to process. While background checks are typically expected to take about three days, the delays are causing them to take up to three weeks.
Northwest ISD partners with a respected service to gather these reports, though our partner can only operate as quickly as the court system. Please keep this in mind when volunteering, and we encourage anyone who plans to volunteer this year to submit a background check immediately instead of waiting.
