Colonial Park Weekly News
November 27 - December 1
Principal's Note
Dear Colonial Park Families -
I hope all our families had a happy Thanksgiving and a restful break. We are heading into the craziness of December, so remember to take some time to breath this month, which is sometimes not easy to do!
Last week, I shared the Giving Tree 2023 spreadsheet, which lists requested items from both our community and Casa Myrna, Boston's largest provider of services to survivors of domestic violence. I am attaching it below. If you would like to contribute, please sign up, and return the unwrapped gift, labeled with the code, by Friday, December 15. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Tomorrow you will receive a conference sign-up from your child's classroom teacher.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, December 5, from 4:00 to 7:00pm, and on Wednesday, December 6, from 1:00 to 4:00pm, and there will be both an in-person and virtual option. If you do not receive a sign-up, please contact your child's teacher directly.
All three elementary schools have two upcoming Early Release Days in order to accomodate our conferences. Please note that both Tuesday, December 5 and Wednesday, December 6, will have a 12:00 dismissal for students in grades K-4, and our preschool students will be dismissed at 11:40. In addition, Friday, December 15 will be an Early Release Day for all Stoneham Public School students.
We have our next Goldie Gathering scheduled for this Friday, December 1. All staff and students are encouraged to wear Colonial Park or Stoneham Spirit Wear or a favorite blue shirt. We can't wait to gather as a school community!
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Best,
Rosa Flynn

*Coats for Kids and Families Drive -- As the weather changes, have you started digging out old winter coats? Hang on to those that don’t fit! Colonial Park is excited to be part of Coats for Kids again this year! If you have coats (in good condition) that your family has outgrown, please consider dropping them off in the bin in the school lobby. Coats will be professionally cleaned by Anton’s Dry Cleaners and distributed to kids and families in need. All sizes are welcome (infant through adults). Last year, Colonial Park families donated enough coats for our school to win the second place prize, which was $500 for the school library!

Standards Based Report Cards
On Monday, December 4, your child's Standards-Based Report Card will be sent home. A Standards-Based Report Card provides clear feedback regarding your child's progress toward Massachusetts State Standards. This report card evaluates all students on the same grade-appropriate skills and describes what students should know and be able to do at the end of each grade level. Many students will be beginning to progress toward the grade level standard, and will receive an Academic Performance Indicator of B, which is completely appropriate for Term 1. The expectation is that students are moving toward Mastery (M) over the course of the school year.
