THE VIKING
Hinesburg Community School - September 1, 2023
THE PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear HCS Families and Caregivers,
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the Ice Cream Social and Sneak Peek. We loved seeing all of you connecting with one another and connecting with our staff. It was also fun to watch parents and students have a glimpse into their classrooms to meet their teachers and see their new spaces.
As much as we loved scooping ice cream for kids and their families, it was even better to see how well the kids have been doing during this first week of school. They are learning their new classroom routines and are learning about one-another. We are poised for a very good year!. We look forward to seeing you at many of the "Back to School" events. If you are new to the Hinesburg Community School, welcome to our wonderful learning community!
Enjoy the long, holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing your children again on Tuesday, September 4!
Best,
Suzan and Tim

👇 UPDATED BUS INFORMATION 👇
We had to make a few changes to our busing. The bus drivers have NOT changed. The routes have NOT changed. The changes that were made were only to the LETTER of the bus so we could line them up in alphabetical order at dismissal time. We do this so our new students will know where their bus is located in case they don’t know their bus driver or if we have a sub.
We had to change the letters attached to the buses to accommodate the wheelchair buses. We need to locate a place that will allow those buses easy access for wheel chairs safely. We have put the other buses in the appropriate order when we figured out the best locations.
These are the Bus Letters the drivers will use:
A - Brandy Thorpe
B - Jeff Racine
C – Dale Terry
D – Patrick Tinkel
E – Fred Haulenbeck
F – Brian Dalmer
G – Marty McRae
H – Dick Gorton
I – Annie Aruzza
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
A REQUEST FROM THE OFFICE
To report any and all attendance updates for your child, we kindly ask that you do one of the following:
- email us at hcsattendance@cvsdvt.org
- call 802-482-2106 and select option 1
It is not necessary to let the teacher know that your child will be late or absent. It IS necessary to let the office know. Please let us know the first and last name of your child, their grade or homeroom teacher and the reason they will be late/absent.
Please read our ATTENDANCE FAQ's
If there is a change of plans for end of day transportation, please let us know (using one of the two options above) by 12:45 on early dismissal days and 1:45 on regular dismissal days, so that we have time to process bus notes, contact the classroom teacher and ensure the student has a change of transportation form to give to the bus driver.
If you would like to pick your child up during the school day, please call 802-482-2106, option 3, FIVE TO TEN MINUTES BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL AT HCS. This will allow us enough time to locate your child, have them pack up their items and meet you in the HCS office, where they can be signed out.
THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING THE ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND CLASSROOM SNEAK PEEK!
MORNING ARRIVAL AT HCS
7:30-8:00 Parent Drop Off - Side Door
7:50 -8:00 Bus Drop Off - Front Door
Unless your student is riding the bus, our side parking lot is the designated drop off and pick up location for students before and after school. Please bring your student to HCS no earlier than 7:30 and no later than 8:00. If you arrive after 8:00, please drop your student off at the front door and we will write a late pass for any tardy student before heading to their classroom. Students who ride the bus in the morning will be dropped off at the front door and will directly go to their classroom.
