A Note from Dr. Brown
Greetings Parents and Guardians!
Thanks for another wonderful week! This year is off to a fantastic start! Thanks for your support.
Please ask your Cub about the attendance incentives that our counselors have put in place. We want our Cubs here daily and on time. It truly makes a difference in their education.
Please see the flyer below regarding the second SEL session that our counselors are hosting on January 17, 2023. Looking forward to “seeing” you there.

Character Trait of the Month
Each month, we focus on a different character trait. The character trait for the month of January is Citizenship. Citizenship means trying to make the school and community a better place. Citizenship is an important character trait for our students to exhibit, as we are all a part of a community. Teachers will be looking for students that exhibit this trait during January to be recognized as the “Cub of the Month” with a certificate and free ice cream!
SEL Parent Night
Ever wondered what to do when your child is melting down and having a hard time regulating their feelings? Then this presentation is for you! We are hosting our second SEL Parent Night on January 17th at 5:30pm via zoom. Parents will learn WHY their child is melting down, and HOW they can help them in the moment and in the future to build self-management skills.
Please visit www.casel.org to learn more about about SEL, and how to incorporate it at home. Also, please click on the handout below for questions that you can ask your children at home to engage your child(ren) at home!

Making its way through a border landscape teaming with native flora and fauna, a fawn must overcome its fears when it comes face-to-face with an insurmountable barrier, in a visually stunning picture book from the creator of the New York Times best-selling Dreamers.

It’s time to cozy up with a good book! Be sure to read and log at least 300 minutes during the month of January!
Students will login to Beanstack using their GCPS student number and their birthday month and date (MMDD) as their password. Students are able to log reading minutes either on their laptop or on a mobile device.
Refer to the media center link of the school website for helpful resources to get your child started with Beanstack. Contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org if you have any questions about this digital reading program.
