Principal's Message
Dear Dolvin Families –
Fulton County Schools is providing self-paced and interactive parent/family learning to support early literacy development at home through a series of engaging online experiences. These Parent Units are no more than 20 minutes from start to finish to complete. In the unit, an easy-to-replicate strategy is provided for parents/families to use at home to support literacy development.
Each Parent Unit will launch one at a time throughout the school year with the first unit released on September 30th. These units are designed to support PK - 2 parents and their families and will focus on different topics:
Literacy:
Unit 2: Vocabulary
Unit 3: Reading with your child
Writing :
Unit 4: Early Writing Development (PK – K)
Unit 5: Beginning Writing Development (1st – 2nd)
Unit 6: Transitional Writing Development (2nd -3rd)
Unit 7: Advanced Writing Development (4th / 5th grade and above)
Multiple languages will be provided as well as additional supportive resources. The units and resources can be found on the district website https://www.fultonschools.org/parentunits and are also linked at the bottom of our school website.
Your proud principal,
Karen

Carpool Safety
As you know, we have had recent concerns with safety at carpool. In the interest of keeping everyone safe please keep the following in mind:
- Do not let students off before the drop zone, unless we have staff members directing students out of cars due to an officer not being present.
- If you are in the drop zone, have your student get out of the car even if it is not in the ideal location.
- Pull as far forward as possible within the drop zone.
- Please do not get out of car in the carpool line. If you need to assist your child getting out of the car, you will need to park in the top parking lot.
- Please do not let your child get out of the car on the driver’s side. Students must exit the car from the passenger’s side.
- Please do not block the entrance into the top parking lot on your way out.
- If you are pulling into the top parking lot, please be mindful of pedestrians. We have many walkers that cross the street there, including small children.
- While we are doing our best to direct traffic and keep carpool moving smoothly, we still need drivers to pay attention and be aware of their surroundings.
We have just over 500 Dolvin families and on average about 250 cars come through carpool each morning. Our carpool numbers increased fairly substantially post-COVID. We appreciate your support as we try to make this as smooth and safe of a process as possible. If you do choose to bring your student to school in carpool, we encourage you to arrive at Dolvin by 7:20 so that we can get everyone to class on time.
Hudson Returns to Dolvin!
We are so excited to announce that our special visitor will be back again this year! Hudson, a hypoallergenic certified therapy dog will be available for students to read to and visit with once a month. Teachers will send a small group of students from their class to read to Hudson on his visits. His first visit will be on October 18th.
If you do NOT want your child to participate in this activity, please email Cara Vollberg at vollbergc@fultonschools.org October 16th.

i-Ready "For Family Report"
I am excited to announce that we will now be able to share your child's i-Ready Diagnostic results digitally by providing access to the For Families report directly on your child's i-Ready dashboard. To access the For Families report, log into your child's i-Ready dashboard through Classlink (your child knows how to do this) and enter our district report code 1HX9DP on the top right-hand corner of the For Families tab. Please reference the attached flyer for more specifics on accessing your For Families report and how to read the diagnostic. If you have any questions please contact me at Halron@fultonschools.org.
2023 Fulton County Student Technology Competition
Hello Dolvin Parents -
The 2023 Fulton County Student Technology Competition will be held in person this year on Saturday, December 9th, and we would love for your child to participate!
Please see information about the competition below.
When: Saturday, December 9th, at Riverwood High School from 8 AM - 4:30 PM
What: All 3rd - 12th grade Fulton County students are eligible to enter a student-created technology project that aligns with one of these categories.
Students can work alone or in pairs to develop their projects. If your student is interested, please reach out to me (Jenn Culbertson) at culbertsonj@fultonschools.org by Friday, October 13th, for more information and to learn how to register.
Because there is only one project allowed per grade per category, registration will be based on a first-come, first-serve basis. All entries for the FCS Technology Competition must be submitted through me as the Dolvin liaison for the competition.
Thank you. I look forward to seeing all the amazing projects our Dolvin Dolphins create!
SOCKTOBER!!
Hey Dolvin Families,

What: Please send in new, unused socks (in child and adult sizes) with your child to give to their homeroom teacher.
Who: The socks will be donated to the Gateway Center in Atlanta, and the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell.
Celebrate: There will be a little friendly competition between classrooms and grade levels as we announce weekly totals. 😊
Let’s show our support and have fun at the same time!! Thanks!!
Georgia Pre-K Week at Dolvin!
This week we have been celebrating our littlest dolphins for #GAPreKWeek with a dance party, art & music classes, and special guest readers. One of our very special guest readers included our Georgia State Representative Michelle Au. She definitely brightened our day with the book she read aloud, Cheer: A Book to Celebrate Community. We also enjoyed having Georgia's Pre-K Program Specialist, Linda Norwood at our school as well. It's been a fun-filled week for our littlest dolphins, and we'll end the week with a Pre-K parade celebration. We are grateful for Ms. Im and Ms. Martin who continue to do amazing work with our #DolvINcredible Pre-K students.
Be The Voice - United Way Shoebox Drive
Last spring our Dolvin “Be the Voice” conducted a Shoebox Drive for the United Way, and it was a huge success! Dolvin donated over 40 shoeboxes filled with toiletry items to the United Way. These boxes were delivered to homeless men, women, and children in the greater Atlanta area. Thank you to all our students and families that gave support to this great cause and brought joy to so many in need.
Congratulations to Dolvin's Bus Riders of the Month!

Recorders - Last Day to Order is Friday, October 6th
Dear Parent/ Guardian:
As a part of the curriculum for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade music students, your child will be learning to play the recorder. The recorder gives the students the opportunity to apply the concepts and skills they learn in music class. It is especially helpful for students who will begin band in middle school.
The cost is just $6.25. This is a good deal! The cost includes a Yamaha soprano recorder, cloth case and fingering chart. If your child currently owns a recorder (with case) and will be able to bring it and leave it at school for the remainder of the school year, they will not need to purchase a new one. Students will be required to leave their recorders in the music classroom for the remainder of the school year. They will be sent home over the summer break for at home practice time.
Orders will be placed through the Online School Payments platform. If you would like, you will also have the opportunity to pay for a recorder for a student that may not be able to order one.
Use this link to order. Use the drop down box to choose either "My Student" or "Donation." If you choose to make a donation, you can put both into the cart before checking out.
We need to do a quick turnaround on the orders. The deadline for all orders will be Friday, October 6.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at fincherl@fultonschools.org.
Thank you for your support of the music program at Dolvin!
Sincerely,
Mr. Daniel Fincher
