You will start seeing the slogan "Pearland Proud-Ask Me How?" When you see it, you might wonder if we are asking the wrong question. Shouldn’t it read Ask Me Why? To build Pearland Proud is a process. When you see a great magician perform a magic trick, do you ask them why they did that or how they did that? When someone asks you how you are Pearland Proud, your response should show them the steps, the work, the passion it takes to Build Pearland Proud. When people ask how, they want to know so they can understand and possibly replicate or become a part of the action. Pearland pride is contagious and we want to let everyone know how they can catch it.

How are you Pearland Proud? The effort I give in the classroom. The long summers during band marching drills. The two-a-day practices. Sitting with someone at lunch that needs a friend. Volunteering as a mentor. Helping students afterschool learn that math problem. Answering the phone and listening to a parent’s concern.

Educating our students and supporting our staff in a safe environment is our top priority. Pearland ISD invested in safety with the 2016 bond, which added a hardening to our schools and improved rapid response communication. We continue our pledge to school safety as we implement plans to use funds from Texas School Safety Formula Grant that include improvements to perimeter fencing, campus surveillance, and installation of bi-directional antennas to improve interior building communication. We are also focused on improving safety training for students and staff, and our wraparound services to support mental and physical wellbeing.

We are asked what can parents do to help keep our schools safe?

• Advocate for increased safety funding. Did you know that Pearland ISD only receives $9.60 per student for school safety, which equals $201,600? We annually spend $1.3 million for our school resource officers.
• Continue to speak with your students about See Something, Say Something.
• Attend the district safety committee meetings and offer your voice and suggestions.
• Practice gun safety. BeSmart is a great resource. Click Here
• Monitor your student's social media interactions.
• Explain the consequences of a bad decision- any threat involving guns against another student or campus will result in arrest, removal from campus, or possible one year expulsion from school. All potential threats are investigated and taken seriously.

Keeping schools safe takes all of us working together.

We want to take time and pause to thank the Pearland Lady Oilers for the year they provided. They showed greatness throughout the hard fought regular season and toppling of Summer Creek to win the 6A Region Title to earn a place in the UIL State Playoffs for the first time since 1980.

Pearland ISD will be hosting spring parent forums and all parents are welcome to attend! This event will allow parents time to ask questions and have conversation about our district and ways we can continue to improve. Parent forums will take place at Pearland ISD ESC (1928 N. Main) from 6 to 7 pm.

Dates: April 6, April 13th, and April 20th (April 20th will be a Spanish translated event)

I know that everyone is excited for Spring Break, but it is only a break. When we return there will be 47 days left in the school year. 47 days to achieve goals you set when school started. 47 days for our seniors to enjoy those high school milestones that lead to graduation. 47 days to excel in the classroom, on the field, show mastery of STAAR and AP exams, and prepare for what comes next.

Enjoy the break and prepare yourself for the last push of this school year.
