Welcome Back to the 23-24 School Year
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. I hope this summer you were able to get outside and explore our wonderful state and community. Last week was your time to ensure your students are REGISTERED for school. Early registration is crucial in building our classrooms and preparing for the school year. Please make sure you stop by the school or register online if you still need to.
This year Rogers Park will continue to focus on what is best for our students. This year, every Monday, we will have a late start. Doors will be open at 9:35 until 9:50. School will begin at 10:00. Every other day of the week, school will resume at our regular times, with doors open at 8:35 for breakfast until 8:50 and school beginning at 9:00. Late start Mondays provides our staff the time to meet as a professional learning community to focus on teacher practices and student learning. I’m thrilled that the district is prioritizing time for teachers to collaborate and share their expertise. We highly encourage that students are not dropped off early on Mondays so our staff can learn together. However, if dropping off your student early is necessary, we will be flexible and accommodate the need.
Our Rogers Park vision will will be redefined this year with the farewell to many teachers last spring, new leadership, and the addition of many new teachers and paraprofessionals.
Please help me welcome the new Rogers Park staff this year as you get to meet them through our school events:
Sarah Templeton - Professional Learning Teaching Expert
Reggi Parks - Special Education Teacher Expert
Katie Melrose - Reading Interventionist
Akasha Deloney - Special Education Paraprofessional

Nicole Little - K/1 Neighborhood Classroom Teacher
Kathryn Ross - 1st grade Neighborhood Classroom Teacher
Aubrey Thomson - 4th grade Neighborhood Classroom Teacher

Our Rogers Park staff is dedicated to creating an engaging learning environment and student success. We're looking forward to another successful year as the Running Wolves!

Drop Off & Pick Up Loop Protocol
Reminders for the Drop Off & Pick Up Loop:
- Please only pick students up from the curbside pick up lane. It is extremely dangerous to have students crossing multiple lanes of traffic.
- Please be mindful of your speed as you travel through the pick up lane. Our young running wolves are out and about and we want to be sure they get to their destination safely.
- Students in grades K-4 should not be crossing the crosswalk to the parking lot without an adult. Please accompany your child across the crosswalk when coming to pick them up.
- Thank you for minding the traffic flow of our pick up loop. Please refer to the picture below to review our pick up traffic flow.
Student safety
Please remember that the speed limit in our drop off lane and parking lot is 5MPH. Please do not park on the crosswalk as the students have to walk in the road to get to the building. Thank you all for keeping our students safe!
RISK MANAGEMENT & SAFETY
Voluntary Student Accident Insurance
The new Voluntary Student Accident Insurance Cover Letter can be found here. Schools are asked to make this cover letter available to all parents during registration, open house, back-to-school events, and year-long in their building's media rack. Please put the following blurb in school newsletters:
STUDENT ACCIDENT & SICKNESS COVERAGE
This is a reminder that Anchorage School District does not provide medical coverage for student injuries. However, ASD has made available an option for families to purchase a low-cost student accident insurance program. Information is available at the school's front office, online at www.myers-stevens.com, or by calling 800-827-4695. Bilingual services are available.

ACCESS Score Level Performance Definitions
Dear Families,
Scores are now available to you in Parent Connect if your child took ACCESS in spring 2023.
The ACCESS test is administered to ELL students on an annual basis in order to determine current English language proficiency in four domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Proficiency is reported as a score from 1-6 for each of these domains as well as an Overall score, a Literacy score (combined Reading and Writing), an Oral score (combined Listening and Speaking) and a Comprehension score (combined Listening and Reading). The criteria for exit from the ELL program is an Overall score of 4.5 or higher.
References for accessing and interpreting these scores are available on the ASD public website at the following link: https://www.asdk12.org/Page/13702.
Please contact your child’s school with any questions.
