BCS District Update -

In Fall of 2023, we conducted a survey of the community on how to best utilize the funds. We appreciate the input and time from the community on what the community feels the most pressing needs of the district are. The top two responses were upgrading the athletic complex and updating classroom furniture (new desks, chairs, tables, etc.).

At their November 2023 meeting, I made the recommendation to the Board of Education to set aside $50,000 in an endowed scholarship fund and begin to price classroom furniture. We recognize that upgrades to our athletic facilities are desperately needed; however, the entire amount received from the Milliman Trust would not be able to cover the cost, nor would this upgrade impact every student, every day.

In my preliminary research, it is possible to update all student furniture district-wide, which will positively impact EVERY student who attends Bronson Community Schools. Below, I have included images of some of the furniture we currently have and how it does not meet the needs of our students. It can be difficult to learn when you cannot fit all the necessary materials on the surface of the desk. Our current student furniture also does not easily allow for student collaboration/engaging learning opportunities.

One of my responsibilities to the district is to ensure that we are using and coordinating funding sources to their fullest potential. Thanks to the generosity of the district voters, we are addressing much-needed repairs and updates throughout the district with the Sinking Fund millage renewal, beginning with the restrooms at Ryan Elementary. We can then continue to discuss future projects to upgrade and improve in our district.
