Weekly Update from Superintendent Dr. Marlon King
New Principal Appointments
I am excited to announce two new principal appointments this week. First, Teresa McSweeney is our new K-12 CyberSchool principal! She is hard at work already preparing for the 1200+ students who have enrolled at CyberSchool.
Dr. Mac presented to the board during a Monday night work session. Excellent Q&A led to constructive outcomes. We thank Dr. McSweeney for her leadership in developing our new CyberSchool.
Mia Moore, former Assistant Principal at North Side High School, will take over as interim principal at Rose Hill School (K-8). We continue to build a #winning team!
Back to School Schedules
Students will start school on a staggered schedule to allow teachers to work with smaller groups of students to review new protocols as we start the new year.
School-specific schedules for traditional, Virtual classroom, and CyberSchool are posted on our website at www.jmcss.org/backtoschool.
Superintendent Road Show off to a Great Start!
We are welcoming teachers back to work this week with the Superintendent's Road Show! 8 days, 23 schools! We started down South for day 1, visiting South Elementary, South Side High School, and ending the day with Andrew Jackson Elementary. What a warm welcome for Day 1. This community continues to blow me away and I am looking forward to 7 more days of visiting with teachers and staff all over the county. Here we come!
Highlights from Day 1:
- Stop 1: South Elementary. Thanks to the Madison County Sheriff John R. Mehr for the escort as we show our love and excitement to the staff at South!
- Stop 2: South Side High School! Starting with a temperature scan before I could enter the building (97.4!) complete with the South Side shuffle, breaking bread with a feast, and a visitor pass to cross the Forked Deer River. Great visit with Hawk Nation.
- Stop 3: Andrew Jackson Elementary. Great time talking with teachers and leaders. That's a wrap for Day 1!

Senior Leadership Meeting plans for a #winning New Normal
We had another lively and productive Senior Leadership meeting this week. Our team is working hard to open schools and planning for a winning New Normal Initiative! Special thanks to board member Shannon Stewart for attending and for MCSO for visiting with principals this week to discuss SROs roles in schools. Thank you to everyone for your support and understanding that we are dealing with a unique situation.
