This Saturday, The Ship are hosting a family day to raise funds for the school 11am while late. It was a great success last year and we hope to see as many of you as possible. If you can't make it then there are raffle tickets available at the office should you wish to get involved.
I hope you enjoy looking at what we have been up to and don't forget to follow us on Instagram and join our Facebook group to see further photos and videos.
Pearls
The Pearls children have been enjoying learning about different animals. Last week we focused on arctic animals and read the book ‘Dot in the Snow’ . This week we have been learning about farm animals and we have been reading ‘What the Ladybird Heard’. In the provision, the children have been painting animals, looking at ladybird symmetry and enjoying creating arctic and farm scenes with our small world toys.
In Maths lessons, the nursery children have been focusing on positional language and placing the teddy in different places, for example on the chair, in the box, underneath the table. Last week the reception children were learning about the properties of 3D shapes and this week they have been learning about money and buying different items with pennies.
Rubies
What a fun-filled week!
At the start of the week Rubies went to the Magna Science Adventure Centre and enjoyed learning all about the four principles of the earth; Fire, Water, Air and Earth. We had so much fun and are currently writing all about it and our favourite parts in English.
We have also started our new learning on Christopher Columbus. We have already made a fact file on him and mapped out his journey on his discovery of America.
Take a look at the photos from our adventure :)
Diamonds
It has been a fantastic couple of weeks back in the classroom with Diamonds! All children have been eager to show me what they can do. We have been very busy, with lots still to do before the end of this term.
In English, we are now preparing to write our non-chronological reports about Queen Elizabeth II. During Maths, we have been learning about money and concentrating on practising our times tables. I’m very proud of the Year 4s for taking the ‘multiplication tables check’ in their stride - well done to all of you and to the Year 3s for supporting them during this period.
Our PE lessons have been great fun, learning golf with Jordan from Hull FC and then practising for sports day in our athletics sessions.
Practise for the end of year production is well underway. Children have been showcasing their acting skills and their ability to learn songs and lines rather quickly - thank you for supporting them with this at home.
With so much to still look forward to, please could I request that you help your children learn their weekly spellings (tests on a Thursday morning) and record any reads on Seesaw or send a note into school - as mentioned before, the reading reward this half-term is not one to be missed!
Seesaw isn’t just for recording children’s reads; if your child would like to share photos of activities etc. completed outside of school hours, please upload them and we can share it with the class.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do contact me. Many thanks for your continued support.
Sapphires
Rehearsals are in full swing for upcoming production of 'What a Knight' the children are working so hard on their scripts and songs learning them off by heart. Letters have gone home with costume requests, if there are any issues please don't hesitate to get in touch.
The children have been hard at work creating their own 'Raps' in class based on our theme of Rulers. They have been using rhythm and rhyme to create these poetry based songs. They will be performing them to each other in the class, in the coming week.
In maths year 6 have continued with their maths inventions looking at the puduction of cupcakes, using all areas of maths including profit and loss and how to run a successful business. Year 5 have been concentrating on position and direction looking at coordinates and how to translate shapes on a grid.
Our science topic is Animals and humans, moving on from human development to how the heart works and other areas of the body.
Humanities is focusing on Rulers, the children are looking at historical figures from many eras and comparing their rule. These are to be recored on the schools timeline showing when these Rulers were in power.
A very busy last few weeks to be had, with lots of fun activities and learning to be completed.

Reading Rewards
The levels for reading are:
Bronze - 15 reads
Silver - 20 reads
Gold - 30 reads
Reading clubs are worth 3 reads and these will be back on next term.
Reads can be logged on Tapestry, Seesaw or on paper. If your child is younger sharing a story with them counts as a read this means that it is accessible to all.
Our reading treat will involve some fun outdoors on our field.
School Places
If you have friends or family who are wanting a place at the school either now or in the future then please encourage them to contact us via email or over the phone. This is especially important if they will want places as a 2-Year Old or in our Nursery or Reception as places for next year are now limited.
Thank you
