BSD Update

October 21, 2023
Dear Bremerton School District Community:
We are writing to address an incident that took place during last night’s Bremerton Knights football game at Bainbridge High School. We have received information that some of our players were subjected to derogatory racial slurs during the game. We unequivocally condemn all forms of racial discrimination.
- Joint investigation: Both schools are fully committed to, and in the process of, conducting an investigation into these allegations. While the investigation is ongoing, our primary concern is the well-being of our students.
Open communication: We will provide updates as we gather more information. We understand the importance of transparency and clarity in situations like these. Once the investigation concludes, we will review, and if necessary, revise our protocols for away games to ensure the safety and dignity of our players.
Feedback and insights: If you have information or concerns related to the incident, please reach out to BHS Principal Ryan Nickels.
Both schools are taking this matter extremely seriously. We are confident that together we can navigate this situation with the utmost integrity and care. As we navigate this situation, we ask for your patience, trust, and continued commitment to the values that define our school community.
Our District firmly stands for respect, inclusivity and fair treatment of all individuals. Thank you for your unwavering support.
Sincerely,
Dr. James Crawford
