Holy Cross Thunderbolt Newsletter
March 1, 2023
Holy Cross Catholic School guides each student in developing academic, emotional and physical excellence while spreading the Gospel message as Jesus did, since 1868.
Everyone who asks receives. Everyone means everyone. And in order to explain it, Our Lord cites the example of a good father who gives his children what they need. If fathers do that on earth, Jesus teaches, how much more will your Father God give good things to those who ask Him!
Have you ever prayed slowly about those words: ʺhow much moreʺ? But sometimes we ask God for things and either nothing changes or the situation gets worse! True. What happens to us sometimes is what Coldplay explain in the song ʹFix Youʹ: ʺWhen you try your best but you donʹt succeed. When you get what you want but not what you need.ʺ Sometimes people get what they want... but not what they need. God, as the best of fathers, gives His children what they need; not what they want. Thatʹs His way of ʹfixing youʹ from the effects of original sin and when everything goes wrong.
Remember when your mom wouldnʹt give you fizzy drinks before bed or sweets before lunch? Because she loved you, she didnʹt give you what you wanted, but rather what was best for you. God is not a ʹvending machineʹ in which you insert prayers to get what you fancy. God is not even a ʹgrandadʹ who could be easily convinced to give you what you wanted. Heʹs a Father Who loves, and therefore He only gives the best.

Feast of St. Katharine Drexel on March 3rd - Patron Saint of Racial Justice
St. Katharine Drexel was from Philadelphia. She inherited several million dollars and she gave it all away! She was especially shocked by the treatment of Native Americans, so she decided to use her money to finance missions for Native American communities.
Katharine went to Rome in 1887 and met with Pope Leo XIII, asking for missionaries to staff the missions. Pope Leo said she should be a missionary! She heard the call of the Holy Spirit and decided to dedicate herself to a life of service to those in need. She founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament on February 12, 1891 to minister to the needs of African American children and Native American children, especially those living in poverty.
She had a heart attack at age 77 and could no longer actively participate in her ministry. But that didn’t end her life of service. She spent the next 20 years in quiet prayer. Katharine died at the age of 96.
