TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
VOL 6 ISSUE 12
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
At this point, hopefully you know our Orlando Science Schools Day/International Festival is this Saturday. All profits for this event are directly funneled back into the school, benefiting both students and teachers. With today’s economy, and constantly changing school policies, it is hard to keep teachers. We offer competitive wages and benefits, but when I interview for a position, I always highlight two points: our parents and our PVO.
“We need your support” is too cliché for my taste. What we need is parent presence, you're being a part of the school culture, and yes, any type of donation you can make whether its time or financial. Parents are an integral part of what we do.
All funds are raised by the school and managed through PVO. When the PVO purchases items or holds events, the first question is “How will this benefit all students?” PVO does not sponsor one grade, or subject. In addition, they help provide perks that keep teachers and staff at the school. In essence, all fundraisers support all students and all staff.
“Parents, students, and staff. The Golden Triangle”

Red Ribbon Week
THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Volden
Kindergarten had a very busy week this week celebrating red ribbon week. We had fun on Character day with a parade too! Kindergarten teachers want to remind parents that our field trip to Crayola is next Friday 11/10! Please remember to wear your uniforms and bring a disposable lunch! In Ms. Volden's class this week we have been working on Proper nouns, subtraction within 20, and learning about gravity. We look forward to learning about Fall and completing some more fun Fall activities soon.
FIRST
Nickerson
This week has been amazing in first grade! We started the week with an awesome Pumpkin Book Report Project and we were able to do a gallery walk of all the classrooms on Tuesday. Our kiddos are so creative!
Wednesday was our Fall STEM Day! Students rotated between classroom to complete different STEM projects with the teachers. The results were fantastic!
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Fall Feast November 13 for some yummy food and a great time!

SECOND
Yeaman
This past week we have enjoyed celebrating red ribbon week! Our favorite day was the character book day. We loved seeing our friends' costumes and sharing about the characters that we dressed as. In addition to all the red ribbon fun we also had a great week learning about plays and dramas. We enjoyed reading scripts from funny reader's theaters and watching videos on plays from the past. In Science we are learning about force and motion. One of our favorite activities is watching Flocabulary videos on motion and getting hands on experience with motion during our motion STEM experiments.
THIRD
Astacio
Mrs. Astacio's class has begun learning about the parts of a plant. This week they continued to investigate what would happen to the roots of a germinated seed if they were to flip the bag upside-down. Would gravity have any effect on the direction of growth? The students are also learning about the many functions of the plant parts.
FOURTH
Polejes
This past week, we have been working on motion in Science! We worked in our table groups to build a Lego robot. Students were tasked with building and executing controlled movements like making a square or a triangle. Through this, we were able to discuss speed and position. Later in the week, we got to use sports balls to discuss forces and their impact on objects in motion
FIFTH
Saucedo
In science students concluded their unit on Space and Time by presenting their solar system research and projects. Students created 3-D models to compare the characteristics of the inner and outer planets and shared interesting facts about our solar system. We also conducted a scientific investigation to test which type of liquid does candy corn dissolves the fastest.
SPECIALS
STEM - O'Connor
In the STEM Lab this week, we used the robots to do Halloween challenges like "ring the doorbell", "candy mazes", and "pumpkin shapes". Looking forward to next week, when we start Earth and Space STEM.
Maker Faire Orlando November 4-5, 2023!
Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects.
Students who bring proof of attendance to Ms. OConnor, will get a dress down pass.
SIXTH
Spanish- Bravo
In Ms. Bravo’s Spanish Class students were exploring the Mexican culture and The Day of the Dead celebration. We read an article about The Day of the Dead and students worked on a Venn Diagram to show similarities and differences between this celebration and celebrations of their own culture. They also molded Sugar Skulls.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Piñata winners: Patrick - Students from My homeroom enjoyed a pizza party on Wednesday! 😊
The following are some of the projects that some students worked on as a contest for our Booth about Puerto Rico. These and other student projects will be displayed at the International Festival this Saturday November 4th. They will all get extra credit for participating. Congratulations to Heriberto Matos who won the Amazon Giftcard!!

The OSES Character Trait for the month of November is gratitude. November is also National Gratitude Month.
What really is Gratitude? What does it mean? Gratitude is appreciation of what one has, independent of monetary worth. Gratitude is a warm feeling that often happens spontaneously. However, we can purposefully cultivate gratitude with some exercises mentioned below. Research has shown experiencing gratitude has many positive benefits. So, give it a try! Take some time this month to find little things you are thankful for; a little effort could go a long way!
ENGAGE AS A FAMILY
1. Commit to practicing gratitude this week as a family.
2. At dinner time share one thing that you are grateful for and why.
What benefit of gratefulness do you need this week? Why?
3. Think about someone you are thankful for, share who that person is and why you are thankful for them. **Extra bonus credit...write a thank you note to that person and mail it.
I hope to see you and your family at the International Festival on Saturday, Nov. 4th.
Have a great weekend!
