Spotlight on Reading Fluency
Students across grade levels are working on their reading fluency. Fluent readers are able to read like they speak. It means that they are able to decode at a speed that supports their understanding of what they are reading. In the DIBELS reading assessment, fluency is measured by the ORF (Oral Reading Fluency) subtest. Here are a few photos of students across grade levels practicing their fluency.
Second graders listening to themselves read aloud using the "fluency phones"
Third graders timing each other reading common phrases.
5th graders recording their own oral reading for self assessment.
