Principal's Message
Greetings Lincoln Community,
Thank you for joining us for Fall Conferences over the past few days. It was a great opportunity for our students to lead as they shared about their learning and growth areas for this year. Our teachers really appreciated the chance to connect with you too, share current student performance levels and provide details of your student's year so far, as well as what's ahead.
Professional Development Monday, October 16: Remember that on Monday next week our teachers and staff will be engaged in a full day of professional development. This means that there is no school for students.
We truly appreciate how our community values the ongoing professional development and learning of our staff. Among the many district-wide and school-specific offerings, our Lincoln staff will primarily focus on the following:
- Part Two of Biliteracy, Early Literacy, and Bridging for English and Spanish
- Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) - School-wide and Classroom-specific Strategies *
- Suicide Prevention Training - Question, Persuade, Respond (QPR)
- Oral Language Components and Application to Reading Instruction **
Going Deeper with PD Details: To provide you with further insight into our professional learning, here are a few more details of a couple of our sessions.
* Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS): In this session we will analyze our success and continued development of our school-wide and classroom-specific systems to promote positive behavior and leadership among our students. On Monday morning our focus will include (1) the alignment of classroom systems with our school-wide approach, (2) active supervision, (3) strategies to encourage appropriate behavior, and (4) effective responses to inappropriate behavior.
** Oral Language Components and Application to Reading Instruction: In this session our staff will examine how language comprehension is an essential component of reading. It is divided into two parts: Oral Language (vocabulary and morphology) and Background Knowledge (necessary for understanding the content). On Monday afternoon we will deepen our understanding of oral language components and their application to the art of teaching reading skills.
Thank You for your Partnership! As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org. Go Dolphins!
Sincerely,
Teresa Alfaro - Principal
Peter McDougal - Assistant Principal

What's for Breakfast and Lunch?
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program
Our FFVP (Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program) is an important addition to our student education and nutrition day. The goal of the FFVP is to introduce children to fresh fruits and vegetables, to include new and different varieties, and to increase overall acceptance and consumption of fresh, unprocessed produce among children.
Parent/Family Volunteers
Would you like to join the Lincoln Elementary community for field trips and other special occasions? We LOVE our parent and family volunteers! Whether you'd like to help out for special events like accompanying your child on field trips or volunteering on picture day, or whether you'd like to volunteer on a more regular, ongoing basis, we'd love to have you! Here's what you need to know.
There are three steps you'll need to take to become a volunteer:
- Read this Volunteer Handbook
- Watch this safety presentation
- Complete this Volunteer Packet, your application, the online volunteer training, and an online criminal history verification information form
You will need either a driver's license or other state-issued ID for safety reasons.
You can complete your training online, and turn in your completed volunteer packet to the Lincoln office at any time during regular office hours (school days, 7:20-3:30). NOTE: it can take a few weeks for your background check to be completed, so if you'd like to accompany your child on upcoming field trips you'll want to get this turned in RIGHT AWAY. If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Amaris Chavez at amaris.chavez@woodburnsd.org, or call the main office at (503) 981-2825.
