SCIS PRINCIPAL MESSAGE 11/30/23
November 30, 2023
A NOTE FROM MRS. RAWLINS
Dear Sloan Creek Families,
We loved having our students back at the creek this week! If you haven't had a chance to stop by our office, come take a peek at what our little elves, Angie Griffin and Karen Miller, have been up to! It is truly a Winter Wonderland! ❄️
The Fine Arts Festival is underway and we hope you will join us in celebrating the incredible growth our Choir, Orchestra, Band and Art students have made this year. The full schedule can be found below under District Updates.
The final school days of 2023 will fly by and we are excited to have FUN while finishing strong. Please see the 'Reindeer Games' dress up days below for students and staff. Our next 'Celebrate Sloan' assembly is on December 14. We will award students for outstanding Respect and enjoy entertainment and games! Teachers will notify parents of award winners and we hope you will join us. Please note that this is a full school day and the cafeteria will be serving lunch as usual.
Finally, I would like to say THANK YOU to the parents who attended Coffee with the Principals this morning. This is one of my favorite days each month as we get to share and connect about what matters most - our KIDS!
Sloan Creek PROUD,
❤️🐆 Megan Rawlins

TOY DRIVE
FROM SCIS STUDENT COUNCIL:
We're having a toy drive! From now until Friday, December 8, you may bring NEW and UNWRAPPED toys to donate. These donations will also go to ACO to benefit local families who are unable to afford to provide gifts for their children this holiday season. Toys may be dropped off to either Miss Heth or Ms. Wisdom.
NURSE'S NOTES
Parents/Guardians of 5th grade girls:
Our school will do spinal screenings December 6-8, 2023 during your student's PE class.
State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:
• Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (grade 5) and again at age 12 (grade 7).
• Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14 (grade 8).
Trained screeners will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis. Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems. The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child’s back while he or she stands and bends forward.
Important Recommendations:
• Girls should wear a thin t-shirt, sports bra, or a two-piece swimsuit top underneath their shirt on exam day.
• If girls are wearing a sports bra or a two-piece swimsuit top underneath their shirt, it is recommended they remove their shirt for the screening.
• The girls will be screened separately and one at a time with 2 female screeners present.
The school will send you a letter if your child does NOT pass the screening. The letter will tell you how to follow up with a doctor. This screening is not a medical exam. Your child still needs to see a doctor for checkups.
If you do not wish to have your child screened for any reason, you must notify the nurse through email, no later than Friday, 12/1/2023 by 3:00pm.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Jennifer Busse, RN

NEWS FROM OUR PTO
Dear Sloan Creek Families,
As we all know, our school staff works tirelessly to create a positive and nurturing environment for our children. Their dedication and hard work often go above and beyond, and it’s only fitting that we
express our gratitude during this special time of year.
To make this holiday season extra special for our school staff, we are organizing the purchase of a
Lovejoy sweatshirt for each of the 78 staff members. By joining forces and collectively contributing
toward one thoughtful gift, we not only simplify the holiday season for all parents (Yay! You don’t have to buy gifts for several teachers- unless you want to) but also create a more impactful and meaningful token of appreciation that reflects the unity and gratitude of our entire school community.
If you would like to participate, here is what you can do:
1. Click the link below to go directly to the High 5 Sports online store:
https://scisholidayteachergift.itemorder.com/shop/sale/
2. Purchase an Adult sweatshirt (no need to worry about what size – we have that covered!)
3. That’s it, you’re done! We will coordinate the pickup and delivery of the sweatshirts to the staff
before the winter break!
To guarantee timely delivery of the sweatshirts before the break, we kindly ask that all orders be
finalized by Thursday December 7 th at 5pm. Your prompt coordination ensures that everyone can enjoy their cozy new sweatshirts during the winter season!
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Wishing you and your family a joyful holiday
season!
Warm Regards,
Sloan Creek PTO
