Spring Term - 23rd February 2023
Message from the Head of School
Welcome back and I hope you all had a restful half term week. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the excellent behaviour we are seeing, consistently around school at the moment. So many of the children are showing great enthusiasm towards their work and are demonstrating how kind, polite and respectful they are towards one another and the staff. We have a really clear behaviour system at school and are so very proud of those moments when the children achieve ‘top banana’ status! I love standing on the gate at the end of the day and seeing your child wear their stickers with pride. Please do work with us and congratulate your child when they gain one of these - it shows how brilliant they are being and a real credit to you as parents. My top tip for a great review of the day - always ask your child, ‘what went well today’ or ‘what was the best bit of learning today’! This really helps them to reflect on the positive aspects of their day.
Enjoy your weekend and remember it’s World Book day next week!!

🏆 HJS Sporting Achievements 🏆
Swimming
A fantastic performance by the HJS swimmers. Everyone performed brilliantly both in their individual and team events. The girls finished 2nd overall in the large school category! A phenomenal achievement that we are very proud of.
Big thank you to Mrs Fraser who manages the swimming squad.
Tag Rugby
The rugby team came back to beat Twickenham Primary Academy 9-6 last week. A fantastic game to watch with a few stand out performers.
Congratulations to Raif, Samuel, Finley, Lucas, Zaki, Faris, John, Alex, Lauren & Amber.
The squad is now full and trials will commence again in September 2023.
Netball News
HJS put on a fantastic performance against Trafalgar, winning 10-3 and showing such dominance throughout the game. With lovely ball movement, the team got off to an early lead scoring 4 unanswered points. A fantastic defensive display meant that Trafalgar struggled to get into the final third, leading to a convincing win. Well done HJS and Mrs Beaumont for training and managing the team!
Netball Tournament at Barn Elms
Yesterday seven keen netballers from both year 5 and 6 represented the school in the Borough Tournament. Four fantastic wins and only one defeat to Newlands School in the group stages sent us through to the top half of the draw (The Cup) for the afternoon’s session. The team fought hard and showed some fantastic defensive skills to hold a strong St James’ team to a draw. We followed this up with two amazing wins and were just beaten in our final game. We held our breath to see if we would make it through to the semi finals but sadly only the top team (St James) made is through with HJS just missing out in second place. It was a great day, with the children singing, laughing and competing hard throughout! We even got to see Commonwealth Games Beach Volleyball Bronze medalists, the Bello brothers, train as welling as getting a picture with an England men’s netballer! Well done team HJS and thank you Mrs Fraser for your minibus driving skills and enthusiastic support!
Well done to all the HJS squad: Teddy, Harriet, Sabina, Alex, Zaki , Lila and Ellie
