We are on our final leg of our learning journey for the 2022-2023 school year. Teachers are completing the final concepts with students and preparing for Provincial Achievement tests, Diplomas and year end exams - please see the attached exam schedule below. We would also ask that you please review the exam guidelines to help support your child. Of note, we would like to bring to your attention that the grades 7 & 8 students have been provided a scheduled time to study for exams so that we can help model proper study habits and give extra help to ensure our students are successful. These students have not had the opportunity to write final exams these past three years and we want to help build their confidence as well as reduce their anxiety. Please be aware that the school wifi will be turned off on May 15, June 12, 13 during the PAT and Diploma ELA and Social exams. If you need to get a hold of your child please call the office.

Changes coming in 2023 - 2024!

Mrs. Buckley has been appointed the Principal at B.R.A.C.E. (Battle River Alternative Centre for Education). We want to thank Mrs. Buckley for her positive contribution to Tofield school and supporting students and staff to be successful each and every day. Mrs. Buckley, you will always be a Titan! Replacing Mrs. Buckley is Mr. Chanasyk who currently is the Assistant Principal at Bawlf School. He will be stopping by before the end of June to meet staff and students. We look forward to Mr. Chanasyk being part of the Titan family.

Another notable change is the relocation of Northstar Outreach from the Tofield Agricultural Arena to Tofield School. This is in response to the Government changing the funding model for outreach schools in Alberta, and our experiencing a smaller number of full time students at Northstar with many more students who are instead taking a course or two to support their learning needs. This relocation will take place over the summer so the new location will be ready for the fall. Mr. MacDonald remains as the teacher and Mrs. Metro will be retiring at the end of June. Her replacement will be announced at a later date.

Finally, in the next couple of weeks we will be having our Jr High and Sr High school students complete a course selection for 2023-2024. This will help support our timetabling planning for the upcoming school year. We will be moving to a grade 5-8 middle school and a grade 9-12 high school format. These changes will result in our grade 9 courses being semestered. We believe this will best support our students to become more familiar with a semester system and reduce their stress levels, given that they write two PAT exams in January and two in June.

On April 19, Eric Jensen, Equity Coordinator at BRSD, joined many of our students in making, baking, and sharing bannock!

In April, class 5W learned how to separate mixtures!

Grade 6 classes participated in a Smart Money virtual presentation from Enriched Academy on Tuesday, May 2, from 9:15 to 9:40AM. After the presentation, they did a Kahoot on what we learned, which had around 2000 people, and placed 3rd as a class. We were so close to winning a class donut party!

On April 18-20, we had the Scholastic Book fair in our Learning Commons! Thank you everyone for your support. With your help we raised $741.72 for new books for the library!

On April 14, four one act plays were presented by the senior Drama class to a team of judges at Tofield School. Three of the plays, Power Play, From the Mouth of Babes, and Werewolf, moved on to the Zone 3 One Acts Festival in Ardrossan on April 19-21.

Everyone performed spectacularly! A special congratulations to:

• Zarrah and Maddy for receiving an honourable mention award for Most Improved Crew,
• The cast of Power Play for receiving an honourable mention for Ensemble Performance
• The crew of Power Play for receiving an honourable mention for Sound Design Execution.
• And Gabby Woodruff for winning the award for Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role.

Way to go, Titans!

Badminton Season is now complete! Thank you to our Jr High Coaches Gilles Daigle, Aaron Holba, and Diana Woode.

We hosted the Junior High Div 2 Badminton Tournament at Tofield School again this year. Cornerstone Christian Academy, Hay Lakes, Round Hill and Ryley attended. Big thank you to Gilles Daigle for being our Div 2 Coordinator and organizing the tournament. It is a lot of work. We had a record number of Junior High students who made it to Regionals in Camrose this year from our team. Our grade 7 boy singles player, Tayden Soosay won third place at Regionals in Camrose. Congratulations!

Our Badminton season is now complete! Thank you to our Sr High Coaches Marcel Flasha, Cassie Dey, and Danielle Cunnings.

8 Senior High players went to Camrose on Wednesday, April 19th for the Area 3 tournament. All our athletes did very well. We had 6 out of the 8 players moving on to the Zone championships on: Wednesday, Apr 26, 2023 in Red Deer AB. This is the biggest team we have sent to Zones in Years.

We are looking for Parent Volunteers to help out with Track and Field at all levels. Further information will be sent out in the weeks to come.

Congratulations to our Jam Club who put on an incredible year-end performance for the school on May 3! They practiced all year long, on Tuesdays after school. On May 4, junior and senior high students went on a field trip to Provincial Skills Alberta.
