WMS Weekly Warrior
October 30, 2023
Good afternoon,
We had a wonderful spirit week last week. Our students had a great time on our themed days and an exciting spirit rally. Thank you to our Alliance leadership team for organizing this special event. Our next event will happen just before Thanksgiving, and PBIS points will be used for eligibility. So start accumulating those points!
This is the last week for fall sports. Our volleyball club had fun competing against teachers this past Friday. Thanks to those teachers who participated, and we are glad they made it to school today. Remember, winter sports registration is open on Family ID. Please click here to register if you have not done so already.
Lorien Lawrence, visiting author, spoke to all our classes today about her books and what it took to write and publish them. Students asked informative questions about her books as they read them in our Family classroom. Thanks to Mrs. Shuhart and Dr. South for their help in organizing this event.
Reminder: November 7th is a teacher's professional learning day, and there is no school. School is also closed on November 10th, honoring Veterans Day.
The WMS Parents in the Middle (PIM) will have their first meeting on Tuesday, November 14th, at 4:00 in the WMS Library. Discussion on year events and PIM support will be discussed. All WMS Parents are invited.
Tomorrow is Halloween, and students may wear costumes, but they must be appropriate for school. Masks or makeup that make it difficult to identify students are prohibited. Also, accessories to a costume that depicts inappropriate items (i.e., weapons, etc.) are not allowed. We want to have a fun time while maintaining everyone's safety.
Since the beginning of the school year, we have been reminding students and families of the importance of being on time for school. I have shared this in the past Weekly Warriors, and we have discussed it individually with students and families. Unfortunately, we still have many students arriving at school after our 7:25 start without a call or excuse from a parent. Starting November 1st, students will receive detention for accumulating five unexcused tardies to school or Family. Being tardy impacts more than the student, and it sets a tone that punctuality is unimportant. Being responsible and respecting others' time is something we encourage all students to strive for. Detentions will be served on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 2:15-3:15 . We also include this in our PBIS program for students not getting to their Family classroom on time. We appreciate your cooperation in assisting students in getting to school on time.
Have a great week,
