From The Principal...

We have had an incredible week at MSHS! Congrats to our Girls’ Varsity Soccer team who is currently 11-0 for the season! Our performing arts students have hosted multiple fantastic performances and concerts, and we are looking forward to two more renditions of Freaky Friday tonight and tomorrow. Additionally, our Knowledge Bowl team faced off against staff members in a fierce competition yesterday to culminate their season. We’d also like to celebrate our Environmental Club students and Gabrielle Waters for planning a great week of spirit days and activities honoring Earth Day, including a fair with booths ranging from plant starters to thrifting to face painting!

Seniors have two weeks left and 9th-11th graders only have one month remaining! Thank you in advance for your partnership in supporting students finishing strong by prioritizing attendance and communicating proactively with staff.

Advanced Placement (AP) exams will run May 1-11, 2023. Individualized communication has been sent to all students and families enrolled in an AP exam. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to me (aconrad@mssd14.org).

We also are looking forward to World Language and Culture Night this upcoming Friday! We hope to see you there!

Robotics in Houston...

The Robotics Team had a great time at their competition in Houston. While they did not finish in the top half of teams, the students had a blast and learned some life skills at the same time. The team worked together and most importantly had fun.

"They were 100 percent awesome, which made the task of taking them to such a large event (42,000 attendees) just a pleasure. I think we made some memories that will last a lifetime," said Coach Steve Bethke.

From The Science Department...

Congrats to Grace L., Aleia M., and Daniel P. for being selected for an internship through the Colorado Space Business Roundtable. For two weeks, they will explore the aerospace industry, hands-on activities, and get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what aerospace companies do.

Physical science students are having "so much fun" experimenting with ioLabs. We are grateful to the IPaSS program in Illinois for lending these physic devices. They have built in sensors for measuring force, acceleration, velocity, displacement, magnetic field, rotation, light, sound, temperature, pressure, and voltages down to a few μV.

From The English Department...

Sophomores in Dr. Moen's ENG II Honors classes have been exploring the impact of rhetorical devices and appeals and the persuasive power of logical fallacies by analyzing all manner of literature. To test their understanding of these rhetorical strategies, students were tasked with creating commercials for existing and school-appropriate products using three rhetorical appeals and at least two additional logical fallacies. They created engaging and entertaining pieces of marketing and included various students and staff members from across the building.

Poetry...

Mr. Walker's Poetry class has been writing America poems. They took the best lines from their America poems and turned them into broadsides with handset type on old printing presses at The Press at Colorado College.

From The World Language Department...

We want to invite you to come and join us for the 9th World Language And Culture Night event on Friday, May 5th. It'll be an amazing afternoon full of student performances, architectural project presentations, artwork display, special guests, food trucks and a lot of fun. The event will take place at the High School building, start time is at 5pm, parking will be available at the High School, Middle School, Upper Activity field, up and down the hill. We can't wait to see you!

The Pulsera Project: is a nonprofit organization that empowers nearly 200 artists from Nicaragua and Guatemala through pulseras sales, creating sustainable fair trade jobs in a country where few such opportunities exist. Pulsera proceeds also fund scholarships, healthcare, housing, community programs, social enterprises, sustainable energy initiatives, and many other projects that create bright futures for these artists and their communities.

The Spanish Club will be selling Pulseras during lunch time in the Commons, each bracelet is $7. Sale will go all the way through May 8th.
