DISTRICT TEAM SPORTS
District 196 Icettes
Twenty-two of the 49 skaters in the program travelled to Huntsville, Alabama last week. The team participated and won all the major team awards. Individual medals were won as well.
Our team won first place in Teen Skating, Teen Advanced Formation, Large Production Team. Icettes also won the trophy for first place in Small Production Team.
Individual and team events scores were added up to a total which determined the overall winner. Icettes placed 3rd overall with only 22 skaters. Our skaters did extremely well considering the disparity in numbers and only having skaters ages 13-18.
Icettes will have its last skating competition for the season on March 3rd at the Bold Ice Challenge in Minneapolis Parade Ice Garden.
The Varsity Synchro Team has been invited to perform at the 7pm River Blades Hastings Ice Show on March 4th.
Icettes also competed in Frosty Blades Competition (Feb 3-5) in the National Sports Center and won first place in both Varsity & Synchro synchro skating and in the top 3 places for the different team compulsory groups. Some skaters also did individual events and did well.
The annual Icettes Ice Show will be 3 nights at the Apple Valley Sports Arena at 7 pm on Thursday (March 9th) thru Saturday (March 11th).

CLUB SPORTS
Rugby registration is open for our Girls and Boys high school teams.
Our Varsity Girls are looking to defend their State Championship, and our Varsity Boys are continuing to rebuild after our 2021 State Championship and once again expect to compete at the top.
NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. In rugby, everybody plays, everybody carries the ball, and everybody tackles. Rugby suits all body shapes and sizes, and teaches explosiveness, decision-making, and agility. Rugby is the only spring sport that teaches safe and highly effective tackling to improve HS football player performance and avoid injury. We are an ISD 196 club sport, meaning Varsity players may earn their letter.
Practice begins on March 1st (8:30PM @TCO Dome-Lakeville North) and the season runs through the end of the school year. More information, including registration links, may be found at https://www.eaasports.org/rugby. Interested players are also welcome to reach out to our Eastview Liaison, Physical Education teacher Tifani Sadek.

District 196 Moving Forward with May 9 Bond Referendum Election: Two-Question Special Election Addresses District’s Facilities and Equipment Needs
District 196 School Board on Monday unanimously approved a resolution calling for a two-question bond referendum election on May 9, 2023, to address the district’s facilities and equipment needs for the next 10 years and beyond.
That was the recommendation of the administration and members of a Facilities and Equipment Steering Committee that conducted a comprehensive review of the district’s facilities and equipment needs over the last year and a half. The committee developed a facilities master plan and recommended the first phase of improvements to address needs in the areas of safety, security and supervision; space for growth, and providing students and families a more consistent experience in facilities across the district.
The proposed improvements were presented as preliminary recommendations at the Nov. 14 School Board meeting. They were then presented for public input during three nights of focus group dialogues in November, and online via a form on the district website. Learn more.
