Information Update
Dear Families,
We want to thank you for your patience and understanding during these times of uncertainty as we plan the details and safety procedures for our returning families. We understand that trying to figure out all of the instructional choices being offered is overwhelming. We also understand that waiting on the the notification of what your child's September 8 will look like is an additional stress. We are working diligently to get that information ready for families. You should have completed a verification of your original choice sometime this week. If you did not get the verification email, have not sent your response to me or talked to a staff member please send me an email verifying your response for the beginning of the year.
Parent Support
In Person Learning (5 days a week)
The number of students attending in-person per school is dependent on COVID trends, advice of health experts, capacity of school buildings, and availability of teachers.
The number of students served in-person will vary by school, but will be around 25% of our capacity. We are hoping not to need a selection process, but one is been developed just in case! Details are not available at this time.
Enrollment will be monitored and expanded as COVID trends improve.
Please understand that just because you might prefer In-Person Learning, the capacity limitations dictated by MUSC, DHEC, and CCSD’s Board of Education, might require your child to start in a Temporary Remote mode. Again, our goal is to accommodate all families desires.
Temporary Remote Learning
In the temporary remote model (where the majority of our students will begin the year), students will receive rigorous instruction from our very own MPA teachers.
Daily attendance in all direct instruction sessions is expected and recorded just as if the child is in school face-to-face. Absences will be recorded as well and require documentation.
This will be much more structured and systematic than in the Spring.
Students will log on and participate in both AM sessions and PM sessions.
- Ipads or Chromebooks will be deployed to families depending on your child's grade during LEAP week (see information below).
Students will complete independent work between online sessions/lessons.
Teachers will be conducting temporary remote classes from their actual classroom, using the equipment and materials as if the students were in-person.
Students will interact with all teachers on a grade level and will build relationships with students in their grade level.
Grade level teams are collaborating to ensure all students are learning the same priority standards and have the same expectations.
CCSD Virtual Academy
Daily attendance in all direct instruction sessions is expected and recorded just as if the child is in school face-to-face. Absences will be recorded as well and require documentation.
tudents remain at home with all instruction delivered online.
Taught by CCSD teachers, but not necessarily an MPA teacher.
Virtual Academy is K-8 and does not include CD.
Minimum commitment: 9 weeks (first quarter)
Please read these frequently asked questions about the program.
You should have registered for this option as of yesterday.
LEAP Days (August 31 - September 4)
Learn Evaluate Analyze Prepare (LEAP) days will occur August 31- September 4. During this week we will be inviting groups of students into the building on a staggered schedule. We will need to see all MPA students no matter their learning path for an assessment session during this week. A teacher from your child's grade level will be reaching out this week to schedule a session. The sessions will either be during the morning or afternoon.
During this visit, we will be assessing your child to best prepare to meet their academic needs. In grades kindergarten and first grade students will be taking one-on-one assessments in math and literacy. In grades two through five students will be taking the Measure of Academic Performance (MAP) assessment.
We will also be sending home student devices and materials. Please have your child bring an empty backpack to take materials with them as they leave. They may also bring a water bottle, snack and their mask.
Together We Soar!
Finally, We feel your frustration with so much uncertainty, changing plans, and the unknown for the coming months. None of us has ever been through a pandemic and we are all getting tired of it and missing “normal” life. Please trust that everyone, at every level, who is involved in this equation is doing their very best to keep our community safe and still educate our children.
We are here to assist and work together to make this unfortunate and uncomfortable time as smooth as possible. We ALL miss seeing your child in the building on a daily basis and it breaks my heart that I will not be able to feel the excitement and get my first day of school hugs. But this is temporary and together we can come out on the other side of this stronger than ever before.
