CVU Celebrations
September 22, 2023
Dear CVU Community: As far as I can remember, CVU has never hosted a Senior Sunrise. Let's face it...17 and 18 year-olds aren't exactly known for voluntarily rising in the pre-dawn hours; however, there's something special about this class of 2024. Not only are they willing to wake up early, but their collective goal is to be the class known for creating belonging. I'm not sure a principal could ask for more!
Upcoming Events
9/25 - No School - Yom Kippur
9/28 - CVU @ a Glance (Open House): 6:00-8:00 pm
9/30 - Homecoming Dance: 7:00-10:00 pm
10/5 & 10/6 - Student Teacher Conferences
Student Celebrations
From Jess LaPlante: Snelling Core students working hard and having fun in Project Adventure this week!
RoboHawk members James Haines and Clay Nicholson are joined by CVU RoboHawk Alum Crawford Phillips. The trio presented to the entire Winooski High School about the joys and learning of FIRST Robotics. They are looking to support starting a robotics team at Winooski HS.They were very well received and they got a list of several students and a teacher that are interested.
Thank you to Claudia Bigue for the photo of this amazing sunset at CVU!
From Lianna Reed: License plate activity in French 1 to practice letters and numbers!
"All models are wrong; some are useful". This important big idea will stay with our AP Statistics classes throughout the year. This week Karen Kirkland's and Christopher Hood's students collected data about how far Barbie plunges during her bungee jumps. Using the observations, we obtained a correlation, r, which is a measure of the strength of the linear model. In turn, we can ask how good is the (linear regression) model -- Is Barbie safe? Or is the correlation between the number of rubber bands in her bungee cord and the
distance she plunges too weak to be sure she won't have a horrific accident. Good fun was had by all (excepting Barbie, occasionally), as evidenced by this W1 class.
Faculty/Staff Celebrations
Joey O’Brien used the tools of The Harkness Method to train his Algebra 2 students how to collaborate with each other both when they’re confused and when they want to help others understand concepts.
Our House Administrative Assistants have worked double time this week to ensure C3 and Advisory got off to the start we want. Thank you for your efforts!
Nick Canaday and Rachel Cohen began the Harkness process with their students by running a lesson on the soft skill of body language.

CVSD Fall Family and Caregiver Survey
CVSD values your feedback and we want to know what you think!
We are currently surveying our families and caregivers to gain insight into your perception of our school and district's effectiveness. To ensure that we continue to provide high-quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college, career, and the future, we would love to learn your opinion on the progress towards those ends.
To administer these surveys, we have partnered with Panorama Education to conduct our Fall 2023 Family Survey. Panorama safeguards your privacy, keeping your responses confidential and anonymous. The survey will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and our district exemplary.
You may complete the survey online between September 22 and October 13 using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. If you have children in more than one of our schools, we'd appreciate you sharing your thoughts about each separately. Please note: we are not certain that the survey saves if you have to step away while completing it. Please try to fill it out in one sitting.
We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us using Let's Talk and selecting the General Questions topic.
Thank you,
Rene Sanchez, Superintendent
Champlain Valley School District
