Drop Off and Pick Up Updates
We are getting into a rhythm with dropping off and picking up students each day. A couple of reminders:
- If you pull into the side lot after 8am, please drive to the front of the school and sign your child into the office. There may be teachers still out front unloading some special services buses, but you will need to walk your child in.
- When dropping off from the car line in the side lot, we ask that your child exit the car from the passenger side and that you stay in your vehicle. This helps the flow and keeps everyone safe.
- Please do not park in the side lot and walk or allow your child to walk between vehicles in the drop off line.
- Any changes in afternoon transportation need to be made by calling the school prior to 1:00pm.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding!
Community Open House-Help Spread the Word!
We know many of our parents have already seen the new spaces, but please share with your neighbors who may not have children in school and have not had a chance to see the improvements to our building.
Cafeteria News
Due to excessive negative meal balances across the District, all Gahanna-Jefferson schools will be reinstating a previously used meal charge policy. Starting Sept. 5, 2023, any student with more than five lunch charges this school year will receive a substitute meal in the cafeteria. At the elementary level this means accounts with more than $13.75 in negative charges and at the middle and high school levels, this includes accounts that have accrued more than $15 in debt. The substitute breakfast will consist of a breakfast bar, fruit and milk and the substitute lunch will include a cheese (turkey for dairy substitute) sandwich, fruit and milk.
Families will receive a phone call and/or email starting with the second negative charge to alert you of the deficit in your student's account.
If you need to add funds to your student’s account, you can do so through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or with a check or cash. Additionally, if you think your family would qualify for free or reduced meals, you can apply via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, print a paper application from the District website or fill out a paper application found in the office at each building. Any student that is approved for free or reduced lunch for the 2023-24 school year will receive a regularly menued meal. Families with a negative balance from a previous school year will be contacted by the District office to ensure full payment by the end of the 2023-24 school year.

VOLUNTEERING
Volunteering is an important part of our school community. There are both large and small roles. If you are interested in helping with a school event, being a tutor, grade level room parent or something else, please fill out this survey to show your interest. You are not required to volunteer if you fill it out but will help us share information with those who are interested. This survey includes volunteer opportunities for both PTA activities and regular school classroom activities.
- Please complete the volunteer interest form by selecting YES for ALL volunteer opportunities you might like to assist with. If you have multiple children at High Point, please select all teachers.
- An online volunteer application and background check (only for those working with students one-on-one or small groups) will be sent within 2 weeks of completing the google interest form.
- Once approved as a volunteer you will receive communication about signing up for specific dates/times to volunteer.

2023 High Point Walk-a-thon | Friday, September 29, 2023
Walk-a-Thon is quickly approaching. We are looking forward to seeing the kids push themselves and reach their goals and a strong parent cheering section on September 29th at the Middle School East Track. Permission slips and pledge forms came home last week with your students. Please make sure these are returned by Friday, September 22nd. Volunteers are also needed to make the day a success. We will need help with everything from set-up to clean-up, counting laps, water runners, floaters, etc. Please complete this google form if you are interested in volunteering and someone will be in touch. https://forms.gle/d6CVy8vtx3nHPfEy8
SKATE PARTY
Mark your calendar for our first skate party of the year. All family members are welcome to our after school skate party Thursday, September 21st 6:00pm-8:30pm at Skate Zone 71. Flyers will be coming home with your student soon!
These Shoes are Made For Walking
As mentioned above, the Walkathon is coming up quickly. Please make sure your child has a sturdy pair of athletic shoes for the day. Flip flops, slip on shoes, and some canvas shoes may not provide support for the multiple miles your child will be walking. If you need assistance with this, please email our school counselor, Mrs. Diol at diolj@gjps.org. Thank you!
COVID Update
On May 11, 2023, the federal government declared the COVID-19 public health emergency to be over. In this light, Franklin County Public Health has rescinded the Franklin County COVID-19 public health emergency. This update ended school districts’ obligation to contact trace and report COVID positive cases within the community.
FCPH and CDC guidance remains as follows: “After testing positive, you should stay home for 5 days regardless of vaccination status. After 5 days, you may end isolation if you are fever-free for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing medicine) AND your symptoms are improving.”
