Veteran's Day Observation
Greetings Families!
To observe Veterans Day in our class, all students will have the opportunity to share a picture of a loved one who is a veteran or an artifact to represent their loved one's service on November 10th. You can email me an electronic copy of the picture or artifact. Additionally, it would be great if you could help students prepare a few kind words about their loved one and their military service. Thanks in advance for helping your 4th grader prepare for this very special Veterans Day observance and special thanks to everyone who sent in pictures for your child’s short presentation.Student-Led Conferences: A Celebration of Learning
Thank you for being so supportive of our young scholars during their Student-Led Conferences! The students were poised, prepared, and filled with pride to share their growth as learners and thinkers!
Reading & Writing Workshop
During Reading & Writing Workshop, we are growing as readers of nonfiction. For the past two weeks, we have been reading about cool animal defenses and aquatic animals. With these texts, we learned to identify the main ideas and details and write summaries to show what we comprehended.
This week, we will inquire into the Native American heritage while using our knowledge of text structures and features to help us learn and appreciate their culture. As writers, we are learning to notice the structures and features authors use so we can write about the research topics we've chosen. Be sure to ask your 4th grader about the topic they're researching!

Math Workshop
or she is also learning to represent the mathematical reasoning involved in multiplication situations using models and how to use patterns to place the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied by a power of 10. Additionally, we are applying our understanding of place value to estimate decimal products. A lot of the problem solving we're doing uses money as a real-world context to connect mathematics to everyday life problems. At the end of this week, we will take a test on multiplying decimals and problem solving. Use the Multiplying Decimals Review to help your 4th grader prepare for the test. They are to complete the even numbers of this review by Wednesday, 11/8/23,
Next week, we will begin to divide by one-digit divisors. Learning this skill
will require an understanding of estimating quotients, remainders, and of connecting models and symbols. You can expect to see work that provides practice in dividing whole numbers by one-digit divisors using the standard algorithm and other strategies such as estimation.Mathematicians at Work!
