Calendar for 2023-2024 School Year
What's new with the calendar?
Educational activities (Intersession) available to all K-8 students Feb 20-23
Summer break begins at the end of June
Reasons for the Calendar Adjustment
- Reducing learning loss: Teachers typically have to re-teach at the beginning of the year. Shortening the summer can reduce learning recovery needs.
- Reducing Burnout: Longer and/or more frequent breaks during the year will help staff and students return with more energy.
- Continuous care, food, and socialization: Over the summer, students may be missing school-provided meals and connecting with other students.
- School-year Intervention: Instead of waiting until summer school, breaks during the year can be used to provide academic interventions and prevent course failure.
- Wednesday Early Release: The high school is adding more early-release Wednesdays to support teacher professional development and collaboration.
- November Break: There will be a full week off beginning on the Monday before Thanksgiving Day.
- February Mid-winter Break: There will be a full week off beginning on the Monday of President's Day
- Summer Break: About 10 weeks long
- 1st day of School: Tuesday after Labor Day
- Last day of School: 2 weeks later than it has been in the past
- Summer Blast: We will continue to have full-day academic intervention and enrichment programs for our K-8 students.

immunizations
Your child should be up to date by the first day of school on immunizations.
Preschool: 4 year old boosters required if student will be 4 on 9/1.
Kindergarten: 4 year old boosters required.
Age 9: While not required, HPV vaccination is now recommended for children starting at age 9.
Schedule an appointment with your medical provider or Jefferson County Public Health (immunization clinics Tuesdays 1-4pm, 360-385-9400) over the summer!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me, Nurse Merilee, with questions.
Medications
Medications cannot be stored over the summer, so an adult will need to pick them up.
You can come at the end of the day on the last day of school (June 16th) to pick them up from me! Otherwise, medications can be picked up from Lainie or Ashley by June 23rd (Mon-Fri 9am-2pm or call the main office for an alternate time, 360-379-4535).
Medications not picked up by that time will, unfortunately, need to be disposed of.
pick up by June 9th
Please come pick up your child's items.
We will be donating the remainder to Goodwill on June 9th.
YMCA SUMMER FOOD BOX PROGRAM
Dear Schools and other Caring Community Members,
Once again, the YMCA plans to provide food boxes throughout the summer break for any children/youth (ages 0-18) In Jefferson Co. who need extra food this summer, and for their families. In order to make this program a success, we need to hear from families in Jefferson County.
A bit of background: over the last 3+ years of this Food Box Program, we have had to pivot many times to meet the needs of our community. We are going to pivot again: for summer of 2023, each week we will host 4 sites throughout east and south Jefferson County at which families can pick up their food boxes. For families who are interested in our Food Box program, we would like input on site, day of the week, and times that would work best for pick-ups. (If a family would like to receive weekly, food boxes and absolutely cannot make it to a pick-up site, we can arrange home delivery.)
Please share this survey link -- https://forms.gle/TM1TkB1XFQMa9BndA -- broadly among families in your school, community, organizations, etc. Please consider putting in newsletters and via social media and text. We want to make sure that all children/youth in Jefferson Co. have healthy food so that they can best enjoy their summers.
Thank you for helping to spread the word,
Stacey Larsen (Food Security Programs) and
Tanya Barnett (Family Resource Programs)
