It is November and where has the time gone? A lot has happened, we've had our Fall Harvest Drive Thru, Night Under the Stars, student assessment days, chosen a mascot, and now embarking upon our free Coat Drive and Holiday Magic Celebration! While we miss our students, the safety of staff and students is our number one priority at CCSD 168. Recently in your Class DOJO, you should have received a survey regarding our program and your comfort level with returning to in-person instruction. Please fill out the google form as it gives us very important information. Also, if you have not already done so, please join our Facebook page at Blossoms/Wagoner, so that you can see all the latest happenings. Our scholars have been learning all about trees! Throughout the study students learned the parts of a tree, different foods that grow on a tree, animals and creatures that live in a tree, and things we do near a tree. The students painted trees with watercolor paints. The teachers and the families went on nature walks and shared their nature items with each other on Zoom.

There are so many fun things to do with pumpkins, from baking pumpkin seeds to making our favorite characters. Each child that attended the Fall Harvest/Grandparents/Special Persons Day received a free pumpkin from Ms. Ritzema's dad's farm! They donated over 100 pumpkins!!

From dancing corn, to exploding pumpkins Blossoms keeps S.T. E.A.M. going for students. For the pinecone project students observed pinecones and had a discussion on how the weather effects pinecones. Just like flowers they open and close. When warm, the pinecones open, when cold, the pinecones stay closed. To test, the students had three cups: one with cold water, one empty, one with hot water. Overnight the pinecones sat in their individual cups. The result was the pinecone in the hot water completely expanded open. The pinecone in the cold water stayed closed, the pinecone in the cup with no water opened as well. The scholars determined that the pinecone with no water opened because the room was warm. They also noticed that the pinecone in the cold-water cup was beginning to open and determined that was because the water was no longer cold. Our little scientist are on the move...…..critically thinking!

November 2nd kicked off Character Counts/Spirit Week at Blossoms. Teachers held discussions around the pillars of character and participated in activities with students. In addition, staff and students participated in Team Day, Favorite Era Day, Career Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and Pajama Day. It was a fun week had by all!
