Principal's Message
Greetings Springwater Students and Families,
Next week marks the first grading progress period! We are one-third of the way through the semester. Grades will be available in Synergy the week of October 11th. We will send out a reminder once grades have posted. We will also reach out to families of students who are not earning credit in 1 or more classes. Similar to last year, students who are not earning credit will receive an "NG" (No Grade) instead of "F"s. Remember we have academic support (which can also be accessed virtually if students are quarantined or sick at home) Mondays - Thursdays from 2:30pm - 3:30pm.
Multnomah County held a COVID vaccine clinic at Springwater this week. They will be returning on Wednesday, October 20th from 3pm - 4:30pm for students and families who would like to get their first or second COVID shot. Please call our office if you have questions or would like more information.
This past week Springwater's leadership class hosted its first mentoring activity with our 9th graders. Students had the opportunity to eat snacks, play games, and get to know one another. I continue to revel in the community that is Springwater -- what a wonderful group of students we have here!!!
Thank you to everyone for following the state protocols when students are sick or have COVID-19 symptoms. While none of us want students to miss school, we also want to do everything we can to keep our buildings safely open for in-person learning this school year. It is incredibly important for students to do the best they can to complete assignments (as much as possible) when quarantined or home sick so they do not fall too far behind. All assignments can be accessed in CANVAS or Google Classroom (depending on the teacher). By the end of the month of October, all teachers will have transitioned over to CANVAS. We strongly recommend students who are home sick (or quarantined) virtually attend the daily academic support from 2:30pm - 3:30pm. Please reach out with questions or concerns.
Stay safe and take care,
Ryan Blaszak

October Spotlight Students
Reuben Poole
Grade: 11
Interests: I play the piano and I like to bowl.
Favorite subject in school: I don’t think I have one. I like them all.
Favorite thing about STHS: The fact that it is smaller than other schools. There are not as many people, and the teachers know who you are, so it’s easier to ask for help.
Em Beckstead
Grade: 10
Interests: I really enjoy reading and writing. I’m not quite an artist myself, but I do enjoy looking at art, learning about it, and different things like that.
Favorite subject in school: At the moment, either English or writing.
Favorite thing about STHS: The community. I feel like it’s a lot more close-knit, which is something I’m not used to because I’m used to going to really big schools.
Marco Gerges
Grade: 9
Interests: I have an interest in aerospace, so I like airplanes. Since I was young I would watch videos of planes that crash, why would they crash, and what happened.
Favorite subject in school: I like math.
Favorite thing about STHS: It’s calm. It’s very pleasant. All the teachers are nice. It’s easy to work.

COVID-19 Testing Information
Students who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms while at school will have access to a COVID-19 test.
Following are some important details to know about the COVID-19 test:
- The test is VOLUNTARY. Students must have a “COVID-19 Testing Consent Form” on-file before a test can be administered to a student. The form below must be fully completed and signed by a parent or guardian.
- Testing is intended for students who are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
- COVID-19 symptoms include fever of 100.4° F or higher, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and new loss of taste or loss of smell.
- Students are required to administer their own test by swabbing their own nose. A testing administrator will oversee the process and provide verbal instructions to the student.
- Testing will be conducted in the school’s Care Room or a private space.
- Students who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms on-site and are tested (whether positive or negative result) will be sent home. Further instructions will be provided at that time.
- Students who develop COVID-19 symptoms while not at school may not get tested at the school. Testing is only available for students who are already on-site and are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
- Please use this information to decide what is best for your student. If you have more questions, contact our office at 503-261-4600

If your student is going to be out of school for extended period of time due to a vacation or some other event, please have him/her complete a Pre-arranged Absence Form.
