Southeastern Scene
Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Posting
Welcome to the Sept. 22nd, 2023, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Explorer Families:
We will be offering fall conferences on four different dates this year: Sept. 20th, Sept. 27th, Oct., 4th and Oct. 11th. It is an exciting time of the year to welcome our families into the building to meet with teachers and staff. Your child’s teacher will be sending out specific communication on how to sign up for a time that is convenient for you during your classroom conference window.
- The standards and skills that your child has been introduced to this year.
- The goals that your child has set for himself/herself with their teacher.
- Examples of your child's work.
- Their progress on these skills and goals thus far as evidenced by work that the teacher will share with you.
- The teacher will explain how to navigate your child’s report card and how the skills that are addressed on the report card are monitored and assessed.
Parent Involvement in Supporting Your Child’s Success:
- Keep the communication line open with your teacher. You should expect consistent communication from your child’s teacher that gives you a lens into the instruction and learning in the classroom.
- Read to AND with your child at home, in the car, everywhere! The written word is a gateway to all kinds of learning, and the more you read, the better chance of your child becoming a joyful, confident reader. Your children may find letters, words and sentences in: a menu, a sign, recipe, magazine, mail, food labels, restaurant signs, toys, games, puzzles.
- Value the process over the product, reward effort over outcome, and goals over grades.
- Encourage your children to self-advocate: This is a key part of building a child’s sense of self-efficacy, or the understanding that they have the power to control and change their behavior, motivation and environment.
- Let them make mistakes!
We look forward to seeing our families in the neighborhoods! Be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions at all about your conference.

Please know that anyone is welcome to donate at any time and any non-expired pantry item is appreciated. There is a big blue bin located in the LGI Space ready for your donations.
