We are just over a week away from ESTAFEST, the Estabrook PTO's largest fundraiser and a community event that is the highlight of early spring here in Lexington. With food, games, raffles, a silent auction and more, there is something for everyone at Estafest!

The Gift of Failure comes to Estabrook Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Be sure to reserve your seat, and join the Estabrook parents, faculty and staff, along with teachers and parents from across Lexington for this important event.

Last Thursday, Estabrook faculty and staff gathered in book clubs to discuss Jessica Lahey's The Gift of Failure, the title at the center of Lahey's talk at Estabrook School coming up on Tuesday, March 21. Since January teachers have been reading the book, and last week came together in small groups, then as an entire staff, to discuss and explore the ideas raised in the book. The staff explored themes, learnings, take-aways and next steps. They were excited by the discussion, and will have their dog-eared copies in hand when they join you for Jessica's talk on March 21.

Parent Conferences will take place during the first two weeks of April. Conferences provide a great opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and set goals for the next part of the school year.

Parents of incoming kindergarteners are invited a the Lexington Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, March 16 at 6:45 p.m. at Bowman School. Kindergarten teachers, school administrators and district officials will be on hand to share information and answer questions.

One of the many features that makes our LEED-certified facility so green are the rows of solar panels placed atop our roof! Information on the amount of energy produced--and the emissions saved--is on display in real time for students to see each day, courtesy of a digital display in our first floor hallway. Thank you to all the parents who joined Mr. LaBroad and Maureen Kavanaugh for the Homework Focus Group on March 8. Parents were able to share their feedback on Estabrook's move to a homework plan with a focus on independent reading and optional At Home Learning Calendars. Your thoughts are were invaluable as we weigh our assigned homework.

In the weeks ahead, parents will be invited to complete a survey on the topic.

All Lexington Public Schools offices will close at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, to allow for staff training on our new email/communication system, slated to come online this summer. We appreciate your understanding.
