Hello Hueneme Elementary Families,
Thank you to all of the families that have participated in Parent teacher conferences thus far! This is an important part of our partnership in helping our students grow.
Bike VC: This past week, Hueneme Elementary worked with an organization called Bike VC. Mr. Sergio and Mr. Larry came onto the campus to teach our Thunderbolts about bike safety, properly fitting helmets, and how to ride a bike. It was such an amazing experience with many of our students learning how to ride for the first time. Please ask your child about this event and encourage them to get outdoors!
Report cards & Parent Conferences: Parent conferences are winding down with our final week of conferences. Hueneme schools will be on early dismissal for the rest of the week. TK&K dismiss at 12:00 pm, Grades 1-3 dismiss at 1:20 pm, and Grades 4&5 dismiss at 1:40 pm. We thank you in advance for making pick up arrangements and scheduling a conference.
Active Assailant Training and Early Dismissal day: On Thursday, December 14th Hueneme Elementary Schools will be participating in an Active Assailant training for all staff. Students will attend school that day from 8:00-11:45 am. SHINE will still be in session that day. SHINE families should have already received a letter with this information and other pertinent details. The staff training will start at approximately 12:15-12:30 pm and will end around 2:15-2:30 pm. Please plan accordingly and reach out to the office for any additional questions. Please plan to pick up your student before or after these times as the office will be closed for the staff to attend training.
Winter Break: All HESD schools will be closed for winter break from Thursday, December 21st through Friday, January 5th. Monday, January 8th is a staff development day and NO School for students. School resumes on Tuesday, January 9th at 8:00 am. We wish all of our families a safe and happy holiday season. Our last day in session, Wednesday, December 20th will be an early dismissal day. ALL STUDENTS dismiss at 11:30 am.
Mark your calendar: Our next ELL information night and Family Reading night will be held on Wednesday, January 24th from 6:00-7:00 pm in the cafeteria. Please go to the back gate for these family events. A flyer will be coming soon. This event will be hosted by our counselor Ms. Ramirez and our ELST, Mrs. Martinez. We hope you can join us!
Reminders:
Breakfast & Lunch: For the 2023-2024 school year, our cafeteria will be serving breakfast and lunch at no cost to our families. This is part of an ongoing California grant for the district under the universal feeding program. Families can find the menu by going to the school website, clicking the menu button on the right hand side, the click the circle button labeled "dining".
Safety First: Safety is important in and around our school! Many cars stop in the middle of the streets to let their children out of the car or for students to get into cars. There is limited parking at Hueneme and drop off and pick up gets busy! Please do your very best to find a parking spot. This puts our students and families in danger when they run out into the street. In addition, this also holds up the traffic that are also trying to pick up. If we all do our part, I know we can get to and from school safely! Thank you in advance for your help!
Entering School: For the 2023-2024 school year, we will have BOTH GATES OPEN as in past years. If your child is having breakfast, please have them enter at the back cafeteria gate from 7:35-7:55. Upper grade students can enter that gate as well. Primary students are welcome to enter on the Clara St. gate. The Clara St. gate opens at 7: 35. Both gates close promptly at 8:00. Late arrivals should report to the office for a tardy slip.
There is NO supervision prior the gate opening. Please do not drop students off earlier than 7:35. Thank you!
