Parents and students, attendance is a key to success in all aspects of life. It is imperative that students attend school each day, for the entire day in order to maximize their potential. Parents we are seeking your help to make sure your child is in school each day by 8:05 AM and staying for the entire day until 3:05 PM. Help us to develop dependable and accountable individuals by encouraging daily attendance for your child. As we begin the final nine weeks of the Spring semester on Tuesday we look forward to seeing every student in attendance and working hard to master the skills needed to be successful in each of their classes.

Juniors and Seniors, prom tickets are now on sale $40 for one ticket and $75 for two. The last day to purchase prom tickets will be Thursday April 6. Prom will be held at Albemarle Plantation on April 22. Make sure you get your tickets before it is too late.

If you have not purchased your 2022-2023 yearbook now is the time to do so. We currently have around 20 yearbooks remaining that are available for purchase. These will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. We will not be able to order any extra books. Yearbooks can be purchased at jostensyearbooks.com for $80.

The week ahead is a busy one at PCHS:

Monday - No school for students. This is a mandatory workday for staff. Beta Club induction will be held on Monday night at 6:00 PM for all new inductees.

Tuesday - Baseball and Softball will host Northeast Charter Prep. Both games will start at 6:00 PM.

Wednesday - Track will run at Tarboro starting at 4:30 PM and Softball will travel to Bear Grass at 5:00 PM.

Thursday - The Band will travel to Williamston for their MPA Assessment. Our Math Counts team will compete at ECSU and Baseball will travel to Bear Grass at 6:00 PM.

Friday - Women's Soccer will play at Northeastern at 5:00 PM, Baseball and Softball will travel to NECP. Softball will begin at 4:30 PM and Baseball will begin at 5:00 PM.

Other important dates for PCHS:

March 23 - PCHS Band will participate in the Music Performance Assessment at 1:30 PM in Williamston, NC

April 1 - Winter Guard will perform at the Hampton Coliseum in the championship competition.

April 10-14 - Spring Break

April 22 - PCHS Prom will be held for Seniors, Juniors and their guests at Albemarle Plantation

May 18 - Baccalaureate Service

June 9 - Graduation

Finally tonight I would like to take a moment to acknowledge Mrs. Teressa Blanchard. Mrs. Blanchard has served Perquimans County Schools for the past 25 years and is currently serving as an Assistant Principal at PCHS. Mrs. Blanchard not only serves the students and staff at PCHS but she serves in our community in a variety of roles to help make the place we call home the best it can be. This Thursday will be Mrs. Blanchard's last day with us at Perquimans County High School. She will be moving into a new opportunity at Pasquotank County High School. Mrs. Blanchard's hard work, dedication to what is right and her desire to serve our students to the best of her ability each day will be missed. Mrs. Blanchard we wish you nothing but the very best in your new endeavor and hope to carry on your spirit of caring for all people in our school and community. Best of luck as you move forward.

Mr. Jonathan Conrad is a PQ Champion. He is a creative and innovative active teacher in our science department. He takes on any content and makes it more simplistic and relative for his students. He is a wonderful colleague and support to those around him. Mr. Conrad provides learning opportunities that are engaging and challenging. PCHS is lucky to have a champion such as Mr. Conrad.

Mr. Cartwright is a stellar Fire Academy Instructor. He is a professional role model for his colleagues and students. He carries out instructional duties with a spirit of excellence and is well-versed in his content area. His skillful delivery of instruction affords the Fire Academy students the opportunity to think critically about real-life scenarios and collaboratively determine solutions to the problems presented. Mr. Cartwright also uses humor to create a classroom environment that is down-to-earth, supportive, and safe. Even though he is a risk-taker, he demands that his students think about safety first before taking any corrective action to eliminate potential issues. Mr. Cartwright has a great rapport with students, parents, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Hats Off to this PQ Champion, Mr. Michael Cartwright!

Mrs. Michaelle Overman has been a great addition to PCHS from day one. She has done an incredible job enhancing our Health Science program. Students are excited to learn and are fully engaged in lessons that are relevant and fun. Mrs. Overman is always positive and is willing to help others. Our Blood Drives are at capacity thanks to her dedication and her students hard work. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Overman at PCHS and she is a PQ Champion!

The Elizabeth City State University’s TRIO Upward Bound Program staff is currently accepting applications!!! Students who meet the eligibility criteria can start participating this summer and remain in the program until they graduate from high school (only current 9th graders). This summer, participants will have the opportunity to earn up to $900.00 for participating in the six-week summer component.

How to Become a Participant:
