Madrona Monthly Newsletter
December 1, 2023
Hello Madrona Families and Community,
On November 9th, our PTSA engaged our community in our annual Move-A-Thon Fundraiser. During this event, our students participated in fun and engaging movement activities, some healthy competition and raised money for our school. Through your generous support, we exceeded our fundraising goal for this year's event. Thank you to everyone who planned, participated, and supported this event! We are thankful for your partnership and generosity.
On November 18th, 21st and 22nd, we held our annual Parent-Teacher Conferences. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend this year's conferences. If you were not able to attend conferences during this time, please reach out to your child's teacher and schedule a time to meet. It was great to see so many families in the building. We are sincerely grateful for your partnership.
We successfully held our first Book Fair of the year on November 13th through November 22nd. The purpose of our book fair was to provide our students with an opportunity to explore different genres, purchase books they are interested in, and to increase the joy of reading across our school. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped us make this event possible. Mr. Kirk, our Library Squad, and I are beyond thankful for your partnership. To increase our book joy, we as a staff would like our students to increase their reading time at home. Please encourage your student(s) to read for at least 15 - 20 minutes a night to strengthen their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
Yesterday, our SAS and PBIS Committee collaborated to organize our November Schoolwide Assembly. During this event, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and our wonderful Spanish Speaking lunch bunch taught us how to speak Spanish. In addition, our Madrona 4th and 5th grade choir performed Autumn and Native American songs for us. Thank you to all the students and staff who participated in this event.
This month, we have exciting events occurring in our school. Please read on to learn what is happening in our great community. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me for more information.
Best Wishes,
Principal Carter

The Giving Wreath
The Madrona Annual Giving Wreath is taking place virtually again this year. Our school, PTSA, and community partners are working together to provide Madrona families with grocery and gift support over the winter break.
If you are in a position to help this holiday season, there are two ways to donate:
- Give at madronaptsa.org/donatetoptsa
- If donating on the PTSA website, please put 'Giving Wreath' in the comments to make sure your donation is designated for holiday support.
A donation of $50 buys a grocery gift card for a Madrona parent or guardian. A donation of $100 buys Target gift cards for two Madrona students. Donations of any amount whether it’s $1 or $1,000 are greatly appreciated. Our goal for this year's Giving Wreath is $3,000, and the deadline is Saturday, December 9th!
Thank you for supporting Madrona Elementary families experiencing financial hardship during the holidays. We couldn’t do this without you! If your family would like some support over the Winter Break, please contact Ms. Shai' at (206)252-3150 or email her at sjwalker@seattleschools.org.
Thank you,
Madrona Family Support Team & Ms. Shai
Panther Pride Council
We are pleased to announce the start of our Panther Pride Council. The goals of our council are:
- To encourage and uplift student voices, opinions, and ideas,
- Work collaboratively with others to complete schoolwide improvement projects,

Last month, we held classroom elections and voted in our first term Panther Pride Representatives.
Please join me in congratulating Dakota, Maia, Taylor, Rose, Mazin, Kiana, and Abyisak on their new appointment. We will swear our new Council members into office during our January Schoolwide Assembly.
In partnership,
Panther Pride Council Board

Madrona Year Book 23-24 School Year
We are thrilled to announce that this year I am partnering with Treering to ensure our community has a yearbook. This will allow us to capture memories of our school year and each individual student's growth across the year.
One of the exciting features of this year's yearbook is that every student will be able to personalize 2 free pages with photos and selected memories they would like to capture in their book. This is not mandatory, but it is an option families can choose if they would like.
To get started, all you need to do is create your free account. Here is the website: https://www.treering.com/validate. Then enter our school passcode: 101696453284409. Then, you can order your book for $21.88 until April 19, 2024.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at sjwalker@seattleschools.org. We're looking forward to building an epic yearbook with you this year!
Thank you,
Ms. Shai
