Updated Masking Policy Begins April 18
At Tuesday night's meeting, the Joint Executive Governing Board approved an update to the district's Safe Return to School Plan. This includes the district moving to masks recommended for students and staff. The change will go into effect beginning Monday, April 18. Masks will continue to be required on school buses.
We understand that there are personal reasons why an individual would choose to continue wearing a mask, and everyone will still have the opportunity to do so.
As we get ready to make this transition on April 18, we encourage families to have a conversation about how you will approach this transition. Here are a few talking points to support your conversation:
Discuss your family's decision related to mask wearing.
Take a moment to acknowledge the decisions of others in our school community who may differ from the decisions you are making as a family.
Talk about possible situations related to mask wearing that may occur during the school day and how your child may respond to it. For example: Your child may choose to wear a mask and be asked why they are doing so, or your child may be asked by a peer to wear a mask when working in a small group.
Remind your child that their teachers are there to support them through any concerns they may have.
Most importantly, it’s important to help your child acknowledge their thoughts and emotions. Demonstrating compassion and understanding for others is something we expect students to embrace regarding each others’ personal decision about wearing a mask.
As we have throughout the pandemic, Normandy will continue to consult with local public health experts and follow the recommendations of the CDC to guide our safety mitigation practices. The updated guidelines can be found on our website, www.normandysc.org/BeSafeNormandy.

Hodge was selected as the board’s secretary/treasurer.
