Attendance, Seat Time and Denial of Credit
To obtain academic credit for a course, students must be in attendance and have their attendance recorded at least 90% of the time that a class is scheduled. Failure to attend at least 90% of the scheduled classes of any one credit course or half-credit course may result in a denial of credit for that course. Absences that result from a student’s involvement in any school authorized parallel program will not be held against the student in fulfilling the above requirement. Examples of such parallel programs include, but are not limited to, alternate educational programs such as homebound instruction and psychological/educational testing. Students must be in their class 90% of the class period to be considered present for the day. A student must not miss more than 18 school days or they will not have achieved the number of days required by PA Department of Education and may have to repeat the school year. Students need to be at school on time everyday school is in session.
Hallwalking and Class Cutting
Please talk to your student about cutting class and walking in the hall ways. Letters will be going home to those who are constant hall walkers requesting an administrative meeting with a parent or guardian. Students cannot continue to disrupt the learning environment and this is a safety issue and concern as well. We are asking for everyone's support as we continue to improve the culture of Chester High School and continue our growth academically.
Act 158
The Chester High School Graduating Class of 2024 Students are required to demonstrate postsecondary preparedness through one of four pathways that more fully illustrate college, career, and community readiness. Keystone Exams will continue as the statewide assessment Pennsylvania uses to comply with accountability requirements set forth in the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Although students will no longer be required to achieve proficiency on the Keystone Exams to meet the statewide graduation requirement, students must take the Keystone Exams for purposes of federal accountability.
Principal Popley along with the Staff at Chester High School have been reviewing and compiling a list of Pathways to Graduation for all 12th Grade Students. We have given Students copies of an Employment Verification Letter to be signed and returned to Chester High Administration as well as a Service-Learning Log. We have been developing options to assist the students with achieving these different pathways and have been reviewing each Senior's file to determine what is needed, please reach out to Mr. Franklin efranklin@chesteruplandsd.org or Dr. Aliya Covington acovington@chesteruplandsd.org with any questions. Dr. Covington and Mr. Franklin are meeting with each Senior individually to review their credits and transcripts. Seniors must have 23.5 credits to graduate.
