PSAT make-up on Thursday, 10/19, for students impacted by PSAT server disruption
This is the 2nd Annual Shatter the Myth with the inclusion of the “Teen Maze”. It is sponsored by the LexRich 5 district and is hosted at Dutch Fork Middle school. All students and families of LexRich 5 are invited and encouraged to attend. The purpose is to help educate families so that they may be able to navigate substance use with their children and families. Below is an in depth explanation of the event.
Schedule:
5:00 – 5:45 Dinner with Family (dinner provided)
5:45 – 7:20 Break Out by age (more information below)
7:30 – 8:00 Family Reunification (Conversation Starters will be given to help facilitate practical conversations between parents and students)
Break Out:
2 years of age thru Kindergarten – Activities with the Ready By Five Team

Middle and High School – Teen Maze Activity
The teen maze is an interactive program where students experience possible choices and consequences of using and abusing a variety of substances. The choices are made at random by drawing scripts from a bag and the consequences are provided by professionals in the field of substance use, law enforcement, education, counseling, etc. Students will debrief with a licensed professional to process their experience.
Parents – Open Forum/Discussion
Information on the current trends of alcohol and drug use will be provided by community professionals. These professionals will also share signs of concerns, as well as, strategies and resources to help children effectively navigate the pitfalls students may face around dangerous substances.
Family Reunification:
Families will come back together at the end of the night to discuss their experiences at their given break out sessions. Community partners will share resources and information that are available for families.

Mrs. Twining's Chemistry CP Classes
Mrs. Twining's Chemistry classes are studying electrons and their energy levels in the atom. Students performed experiments in the lab causing the electrons to change their energy levels by adding heat to certain chemicals, causing the electrons to give off different colors when they return to their original energy level. The chemicals studied by students are the chemicals used to give color to fireworks. Students enjoyed seeing the glow of all the different colors created.

Dr. Vee's Environmental Science Students Study Climate Change
Dr. Vee's Environmental Science students have studied Climate Change and are creating children's Climate Booklets for the Elementary Schools of LexRich5. In fact, Ramsey Green, one of his students, reads to the Kindergarten students at Ballentine Elementary on A days and will be presenting booklets to the class.
Booktober in Mr. Landreneau's Class
Mr. Landreneau’s students are celebrating the joy of reading great books all month long during “Booktober.” Students read 15 minutes each day from 8 different and randomly chosen books; they then get to pick 1 book to read completely. Students also get to do read-alouds and share their thoughts on each book. Join us and read some greats books—go for 8–this month!

Attendance Reminder for Students and Parents
One of the most important things a student can do to be successful is to regularly attend school. We understand that there are life events that require students to miss time, and this message is intended to provide you with the information you need to understand attendance requirements and procedures. If you have further questions about your student’s attendance, please reach out to their administrator.
Attendance Requirements/Procedures:
Students are allowed a maximum of 5 absences for a semester class and 10 absences for a year-long class. Students exceeding these attendance requirements will be responsible for seat time makeup.
If you have exceeded these absences for a course, whether it is due to a lawful or unlawful absence, you will be required to make up seat time to receive high school credit for the course.
A student is considered truant after they miss 3 full-day consecutive unlawful absences/unexcused days and/or misses a total of 5 or more full-day unexcused absences.
To avoid truancy, please submit excuses within 3 days of a student's absence. Excuses may be submitted in person, through email, or through our form on the school’s website.
Communication is key! If your student is unable to attend school or you have an anticipated absence, communicate with their teachers and other staff as needed.
A student experiencing absences due to a medical reason may be eligible for homebound instruction if it is a chronic condition or may remove them from the school for an extended period of time. Please speak with a medical professional and/or the school to determine if they may be eligible.
