District Promise
Every student in the Stanwood-Camano School District is empowered to learn in an inclusive setting and is prepared for the future of their choice.
Stanwood High School Vision Statement
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
Every vote counts!
With ballots out in the hands of area voters, I wanted to take a moment to discuss voting.
Voting is a fundamental right in our country. It is an opportunity to have a say in the decisions that impact our lives, our schools, and our communities.
However, Snohomish County consistently ranks toward the bottom for voter turnout among the state’s 39 counties. Island County voter turnout typically ranks in the top third.
We understand that life can be busy, but I want to remind you that every vote counts in every election.
If you are not registered to vote, I encourage you to learn more at vote.wa.gov and our Voter Information webpage. You can also learn more about our replacement levy at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/levy.
Ballots are due by Feb. 13.
Sincerely,
Mr. Washington
Principal

"Day Of" permission is needed for those designated as Emergency Contacts as well.
We cannot release a student without "Day Of" permission to anyone other than a listed Parent or Guardian. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our students safe!
Zero Period Information During Late Starts
When/if there are late starts due to weather, zero periods will be canceled. All students are to arrive at school at selected late start times.
Parking Lot Safety
When driving on campus, please drive slowly and look out for our students. Students walk all over campus throughout the day; one may walk across the street at a moment's notice, so please be aware. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.
Building Opening Times
Just a reminder that on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - our building does not open until 6:30 am. and on Wednesdays (late start) our building opens at 8:00 am for students to enter for either Zero Periods or into the enclosed Lobby to wait.
Parents/Guardians, please be mindful in dropping off students early, especially with colder weather coming. While there are times that a staff member is here early to let students in to come and wait in the enclosed Lobby, that is not always the case.
Thank you!

WESCO Spectator Guidelines & Sportsmanship Code
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in interscholastic athletics are embodied in the concept of seven core principles: sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, dedication, and respect. To demonstrate sportsmanship in the stands, we ask all spectators to adhere to these 5 basic guidelines:
- I will appreciate all good plays and players, whether they compete for my team or my opponent.
- I will remember that school athletics are an extension of the classroom and that learning is taking place.
- I will be positive and use respectful language towards players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
- I will respect the abilities and sensitivities of our opponents and officials, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- I will remember that my actions reflect on others, including students, school, and the community.

SHS AG Mechanics Team Earns Honors
A round of applause for the Stanwood High ag mechanics team, who captured second place in a 12-school competition of skills on Jan. 22.
The covered several skills and abilities being taught in our schools, including Arc Welding, Land Measurement, Sprayer Calibration, Sprayer Parts Identification, Pesticide Label Reading, Electric Motor Wiring & Nameplate Reading, and a knowledge test.
Stanwood High student Jesson Jacobson earned second place overall as an individual in the contest. Callum Russell took 11th place.
SHS students building tiny homes
A big project is underway at Stanwood High School!
On behalf of the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI), Lowes recently delivered lumber and other building materials to SHS's Career & Technical Education Program.
Students in the program's Construction Geometry course will use these materials to build four tiny houses for LIHI. This partnership allows our students to apply and develop their geometry and construction skills in a real life, hands-on environment.
Upon completion of the tiny houses, LIHI will transport them to a Tiny House Village in Western Washington to help people in need in our region.
Be safe in early morning darkness
Please be cautious before and after school as bus stops and walking routes can be dark and difficult to see students.
School district Transportation officials urge families to consider using a flashlight at a bus stop or wearing reflective tape.
Students should wait a few steps back from the road but remain visible at the bus stop. Please do not wait inside nearby houses.
Emergency substitutes needed
The district typically hosts one “emergency substitute” training annually in the fall. However, our need for teaching substitutes is increasing, and we are preparing to host an additional training in February or March.
Please complete this form if you want to be notified if we begin accepting applications for emergency substitute teachers.
What is an "emergency substitute"?
Substitute teachers need the required certification in Washington state. However, when a school district doesn't have enough certified substitutes, it has the option to widen its search to other candidates who can apply to get an emergency substitute teaching certificate.
To qualify as an "emergency substitute," you do not need to have completed a teacher education preparation program or certification exams — but you must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree (in any subject).
Bus drivers needed, too!
We are hiring for substitute bus drivers. This job offer flexible hours and shifts that are perfect for stay-at-home parents or retirees.
Anyone interested can visit www.stanwood.wednet.edu/JOBS to learn more and to apply!
Congratulations to our December Employees of the Month!
Stanwood High School teacher Michael Randall earned the Certificated Employee of the Month award. He was nominated by a student for going above and beyond, taking time to explain things in different ways so that all students can understand. Congrats!
Kristal Gollihar, our transportation dispatcher and a bus driver, was honored as the Classified Employee of the Month. He was nominated by several people who want to acknowledge her countless hours of work and volunteering at events such as the fair, food drives, and more. “She is always available with a smile and a positive attitude,” one nomination stated.
