The Walden Weekly
January 26, 2024
Dear Walden Families,
It's been a wonderful week at Walden School! We enjoyed our fantastic first grade music show on Wednesday during the day and Thursday evening for families. We also cheered on our 4th and 5th grade finalists in our annual Spelling Bee competition on Thursday. Congrats to Iva O. for coming in first place. She'll be heading to the regional bee in a few weeks!
Have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you back at school on Monday!

Report Cards Are Available Now
1st Semester Report Cards will be available in Skyward Family Access under the Portfolio tab today as of 3:00 PM. Returning families will notice some changes from past years. A committee of teachers and administrators have worked together throughout the year to make improvements. They focused on the goal of making the report card a more meaningful tool for families. See additional information in my email sent on Wednesday.
**One of our student Destination Imagination teams is running a canned food drive at Bingo Night. Please bring a non-perishable item to the event to be donated to the Deerfield Food Pantry. Thank you!**
Parking Lot Reminders (2nd Posting)
We always do the best we can during arrival and dismissal. Keeping children safe is our priority, while also maintaining efficiency. Please see these important notes below about the rules in our lot.
1. During arrival and dismissal our buses take priority, so the bus circle needs to be accessible at all times. Also, our buses need to exit the lot right after drop off since they need to get to their charter routes. We apologize for this inconvenience.
2. Our lot has one inner lane of waiting cars and one outer lane of drive thru cars. Once your child has been picked up or dropped off, please exit as soon as possible. Drop-off/Pick-up should not take place in the outer lane. This is very dangerous for children to cross over a lane of traffic.
3. In order to keep the line moving, please pull forward as much as possible.
4. Cell phone use is prohibited in all school parking lots.
5. Cars should not pull over on Essex. This causes back-ups on Warwick and we need to keep traffic moving.
6. We appreciate your partnership is keeping Walden safe and efficient during these busy times of day!
Digital Citizenship Learning from the Library (2nd Posting)
Digital citizenship is taught in the Library Media Center throughout the year, and we know many parents are working to encourage healthy technology behaviors at home. To that end, here is another video from Common Sense Media, which can be found on their YouTube channel.
You could watch this 3-minute video with your child to start a conversation about balancing screen time with other activities. It features Arms, one of the characters students will see in their digital citizenship lessons throughout the year.
