NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
November is Native American Heritage Month.
Take the time to deepen your knowledge.
The video above says...
"Native peoples have lived on this land for more than 10,000 years. We're often referred to in the history books in the past tense. But here we are in the present and we're going full force. We're scientists, we're engineers, we're doctors, we are doing things to make a difference in this world."

PTSA Note - November 2023
“And that infinitesimal change ripples outward -- even smaller but everlasting. I will get forgotten, but the stories will last. And so we all matter -- maybe less than a lot, but always more than none.”.
-- John Greene

Pathway to College, Career and Community Readiness
MCPS created a new guide to help families, students and teachers work together to ensure student success.
The Pathway to College, Career and Community Readiness helps identify students’ strengths and areas of improvement to ensure each student receives the support they need.
Here’s how it works:
The academic milestones will be used to address any learning gaps before students transition to a new grade level, college or the workforce.
Parents will receive information about whether their child is meeting these specific benchmarks.
School staff, students and families will meet to decide the best way to help the student succeed.
In addition to academic benchmarks, schools will provide opportunities and experiences for students to cultivate core competencies and skills to prepare them for life after high school.
Visit the links below to learn about the milestones.

Report Cards and First Quarter Absences
Parents/caregivers will soon receive first quarter report cards. In addition to reviewing academic progress, please make note of the number of absences your student had during the first quarter.
A student is considered chronically absent if they are absent 10 percent or more (5 days or more during the first quarter) of the days they are enrolled.
Please make every effort to send your child(ren) to school every day. If you have any barriers to sending your child(ren) to school, reach out to a trusted staff member. We are here to help.
November 20th and 21st are Instructional Days
November 20th and 21st are half-day instructional days for all MCPS students.
Important teaching and learning will occur on both days and both days are a great opportunity for students to engage with their peers before the five-day Thanksgiving holiday. Please make every effort to ensure that your children attend each of these two half-days on time. Their teachers and peers miss them when they are not in school.

C'BURG Is ALL IN - Check Out our Attendance Policy
At Clarksburg High School we will be working very hard to provide our students with a rigorous and relevant educational program. We believe all students can achieve at high levels. There are several habits and behaviors that contribute to success in high school.
- Successful students attend classes on time.
- Successful students have good study skills and keep track of homework, projects and activities with an assignment book or digital calendar.
- Successful students ask for help when needed and persevere when things are tough.
- Successful students seek challenging courses and programs.
- Successful students get involved in positive activities, clubs, and sports, both in and out of school.
- Successful students work cooperatively with school staff and fellow classmates and follow school rules.
Academic success begins with excellent attendance. Therefore, special attention will be paid to the issue of attendance and punctuality. We expect every student to be in school every day except for the legitimate reasons defined by Maryland State law and listed below:
Death in the immediate family
Certified illness of the student
Court summons
Work or activity accepted by school authorities
Observance of religious holiday
Quarantine
Physical and mental incapacity
Violent storms
State emergency
When a student is absent, a signed note by a parent or guardian must be turned in to Ms. Pineda in the Attendance Office within 3 days of returning to school for the absence to be excused. CHS has transitioned to an online form for parents to use to submit absence notes. Confirmation calls/emails will be made by our Attendance Secretary to parent/guardian. Here is that link. Notes for early dismissal must be presented to the Attendance Office prior to the start of the school day. We respectfully request that, when possible, doctor appointments are made for the after-school hours and on days when there is not school. Likewise, please pay careful attention to the enclosed school calendar and schedule vacations and college visits for the times that school is not in session. Students who miss class assignments due to an unexcused tardy or absence will not receive grades or credit for those missed assignments. Students will remain responsible for the content of those assignments, as they prepare for summative assessments.
Student Attendance
At CHS and in Montgomery County Public School, attendance requirements and policies have changed for the 2023-2024 school year as a result of an increase in chronic absenteeism. Did you know that chronic absenteeism is considered when a student has missed 10% or more of school days. If students become chronically absent, there will be documented and structured supports developed with the student, family, and staff.
Students must be in all classes on time and we have specific levels of consequences that will be implemented as tardies continue. It is important to note that any student who has 10 or more unexcused absences from school may be automatically withdrawn from an MCPS school. This is a significant change for MCPS and important for all students and families to understand.
Our CHS Classroom Absence Policy is as follows:
1 unlawful absences = automated parent phone call
3 unlawful absences = teacher phone call or text
7 unlawful absences = parent conference initiated by counselor
10 unlawful absences = referral to Student Well Being Team & Withdrawal from CHS
Our CHS tardy policy is as follows:
- 3 unexcused tardies = parent contact by teacher
- 5 unexcused tardies = teacher referral to admin via Synergy
- 1= Warning
- 2= Admin phone call
- 3= After school detention
- 4= ISI and additional resources (case-by-case)
