Message from the Superintendent
Dear PUSD Community,
As we adjust to Daylight Savings Time and our clocks moving forward, our students are moving forward with learning in math and science, arts education, and more.
MARCH 14 - PI DAY
Happy Pi Day! We’re celebrating math and the mathematical constant pi π that can be used to calculate things like the circumference of a circle or the volume of a sphere. Here’s to PUSD students who are learning all about the infinite possibilities that life has to offer.
COVID NEWS
As you know, masks are no longer required but strongly recommended indoors at Pasadena Unified schools and childcare sites starting today. We hope this will improve our students’ overall emotional and mental well-being and we hope that changes can be implemented with the utmost regard for differing views and health conditions. We have to remain vigilant for any changes in the virus. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible. Getting vaccinated and boosted when eligible is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect yourself and those you love.
Vaccine Clinic
PUSD Health Programs is holding a vaccination clinic this Friday, March 18 from 1:00-3:30 pm at the Ed Center, 351 South Hudson Ave, Pasadena. We will be offering all primary doses (1st and 2nd) and boosters of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.
Pfizer-BioNTech (approved for ages 5 years and over only)
Moderna (approved for ages 18 years and over only)
If you cannot attend our District clinic, go to myturn.ca.gov to find a vaccination site near you.
Beginning March 28, PUSD will accept
Intradistrict permit requests for students who live within PUSD and missed the open enrollment lotteries pusd.us/enrollment
Interdistrict permits to enter PUSD from another district of residence* (Out-of-District Applications of Interest) Details

NUTRITION MONTH
March is National Nutrition Month but every month is nutrition month at PUSD. With the help of CalFresh and our Health Services Department, PUSD hands out fresh produce that comes from the LA Food Bank every month. PUSD's master gardener helps kids flourish by teaching them how to grow fruits and vegetables in more than 17 active school gardens which effectively serve as outdoor classrooms. With this year's theme, "Celebrate a World of Flavors," the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics hopes Nutrition Month will inspire families to cook their favorite cultural foods but also to try new flavors from around the world. Washington STEAM, which will soon be known as Octavia E. Butler Magnet, has a new name and a new community partner in their corner called SodexoMagic. The philanthropic company, founded in 2006 under the direction of Magic Johnson, has a mission “to uplift communities, to advocate equity, to ensure inclusion, to be a force for change." Last week, they teamed up with the newly named PUSD middle school by delivering a donation of “snack packs” for the upcoming Science Fiction Festival on April 22. Octavia E. Butler is one of several PUSD Community Schools working to champion our students by partnering with nonprofit and community organizations. pusd.us/communityschools
