Just a reminder to parents...

1. You need to pick up kids at the Norris Center parking lot after school, not off the Dunham Road driveway, Kirk Rd, or Fox Chase Blvd roadways.
2. You need to pull into a parking space in the Norris lot.
3. Please follow all posted signs and arrows.
4. Go slowly and be aware of all students and cars in the lot.
5. Parents may NOT pick-up students from our back parking lot without permission from Mr. Loversky due to injury. They will receive a pass for this purpose.
   

We had an issue where the sidewalk leading to Norris was not cleared well. We have worked with our facilities department to ensure that this is done properly. (Part of the issue is that we cleared the snow from the sidewalk and then the plow pushed snow back onto it. We are working on getting snow pushed only to one side.)

Be sure to visit the Wredling Book Fair running from Monday, Nov. 18 through the Monday of Parent-Teacher Conferences. The Book Fair will be open in the LRC from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm and 8:00 am -7:00 pm the Monday of conferences (Nov. 25). Stop in to do some shopping for your favorite readers!

Congratulations to the Wredling Band members who were chosen for the ILMEA District 9 Honor Band. After a rigorous audition process, the students were chosen to participate in this Festival Band. The auditions were in Oswego in late September and the festival was at Huntley High School this past Saturday, November 9. The group was conducted by composer William Himes and they performed one of his pieces! Way to go RedHawk Musicians!

We have had several kids come down because their locks have stopped working. A few have just failed, but some locks that we are getting are beat-up and dented. We did a “drop test” dropping one lock about 20 times onto the tile floor and it had one small dent. That means that some kids are really hard on their locks. So, we will replace locks that just fail- in other words, they are in good shape but just stop working. For locks that are beat-up, students will need to pay the $5 lock replacement fee.

We will regularly feature our Social Emotional Learning information in our Friday Forecast.

At WMS, we use the RULER Anchor Tools. The Anchors Tools of Emotional Intelligence are evidence-based tools designed to enhance the emotional intelligence of school leaders, teachers and staff, students, and their families. RULER includes four primary tools: the Charter, Mood Meter, Meta-Moment, and Blueprint. Each is based on scientific research and helps children and adults develop their emotional intelligence skills. These skills helps us Recognize, Understand, Label, Express, and Regulate emotions.

Have you ever made a decision you regret? How you’re feeling on the inside can have a huge impact on how you’re parenting on the outside. The Mood Meter is a tool to help us learn to recognize emotions (in ourselves and others) and talk about our feelings.

This tool has helped us work with students to build the vocabulary we need to name and regulate our emotions.
