Dear Cape Parents,

It is hard to believe that it is already November! During the month of November, we are reminded of all the things for which we are thankful each day. Our Cape families are at the top of our list! We are very thankful and feel honored to work with the students at Cape Elementary. We are a school family! We rely on each other to help make a difference in the lives of the students that we teach. Without the partnership between students, staff, parents and community sponsors, none of this would be possible, so, once again, thank you.

Our Trunk or Treat event was a huge success. We had over 1,100 people attend along with 25 trunks and over 20,000 pieces of candy donated. Once again, our Cape families’ donations and support created a special evening for our students.

On Friday, November 10 at 8:15 a.m. we will thank and honor our veterans in a very special ceremony at Cape Elementary. We would like to invite any veterans in our community to attend. Please share the date and time with any veteran you may know.

We are grateful for our awesome PTO for their support of our SOAR Celebrations, Principal Luncheons, Capeable store and principal cart! We are grateful to reward and celebrate our students in a variety of ways. We can do this because of our supportive Cape families and successful fundraisers.

With Thanksgiving and Winter Break approaching, please keep in mind how unscheduled interruptions prior to the holidays impact the students’ learning. Please plan your trips during the times of breaks to keep loss of instruction at a minimum. Teachers will be teaching every day and students will miss out on valuable instructional time if they aren’t at school. Your support with maintaining consistent attendance, including arriving at school on time, truly makes a difference. Every day counts! We appreciate your partnership and are thankful for the important role you play in your child’s education.

Our Spirit Night at IL Primo Pizza & Wings was a fun night & raised $200. It was awesome seeing so many Cape students and families out and about!

We were excited to have received 11 entries to our Pumpkin Carving Contest! Congratulations to our winners Aiden Martinez, Aurora Edge, Norah Duquette (K-2) and Jade Paz, Amber Vazquez, Martina Lugones (3-5) .

Keep an eye out for our flyer to come home soon about Breakfast with Santa! We are excited for some awesome changes to the event, including a bigger venue as Cape Vineyard’s Community Church will be hosting us this year!

Our next PTO Meeting will be on Tuesday, November 7th at 6:00pm. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Cafeteria Procedures and Policies for Visitors

Thank you for visiting Cape Elementary and having lunch with your child. In order to ensure the safety of all students and staff, we appreciate you following the district & school policies and procedures below:

• Please wear your yellow visitor sticker and have it visible at all times.

• Please sit at the picnic tables located outside of the café.

• Visitors may not sit at the class-assigned table with other students or invite other students to the visitor table with you and your child.

• Please make sure that if you are taking a photo of your child, no other students are in the background or in the photo. Pictures and/or videos are not permitted to be taken of any students other than your own child.

• Please be mindful of your child’s assigned lunch schedule and be sure to return your child to their lunch table in time to dismiss with the rest of their class.

• Please remember that visitors are not permitted to go back to the classroom after lunch unless arranged with the teacher who has received approval by administration.

• Our Café will continue to sell ice cream treats each Friday.
• The cost is $1.25.
• Students may bring money any day of the week and add it to their account.
• Parents may create a My School Buck account and add money to student’s account
• There may be some Fridays ice cream will not be sold.

Thank you to our students, parents and school personnel for supporting National Bullying Prevention Month in October!

Our theme this year was “Help Build CommUNITY!” Students were involved in activities including: Wearing blue on October 9 to show support for World Day of Bullying Prevention; signing an anti-bullying pledge and wearing orange for National Unity Day on Oct. 18. Each classroom was given supplies for a “Cape Unity” classroom project where students created and posted Post-It notes on the Cape Unity banner in the cafeteria as a reminder of ways to promote unity/prevent bullying at Cape Elementary, and the “Legacy Stone project where classes select the design for a classroom stone - voted on by the class and created by the designer with the help of Ms. Wills in Art Class. “Unity” and “Kindness stones were also created by Ms. Wiis and hidden across campus by “Captain Kindness.” The rock finders will be rewarded with a special treat in the cafeteria on World Kindness Day, November 13.

Cape Elementary is a PBIS Silver-Level Model School. We practice Positive Behavior Support throughout our classrooms and campus. Our behavior expectations are framed with an “I can do this” approach, and students recite our SOAR expectations daily. We provide opportunities for intrinsic motivation and extrinsic rewards for successfully demonstrating positive behavior.

Our first Positive Behavior Interventions & Support school-wide SOAR celebration was a success! Of the 759 students enrolled at Cape Elementary, 655 students were eligible to attend the Q1 “Magic in the Morning ” celebration! That is 86% attendance!!!! Please continue to encourage your student to follow our SOAR expectations as we gear up for our next celebration at the end of Quarter 2 (currently scheduled for December 20).

Cape Elementary is once again able to offer Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas gifts thanks to our partnership with Cape Coral First Methodist Church. If you know of a Cape family or if your Cape family is in need of assistance this holiday season, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or the school counselor for an assistance form.

The district-wide character word for November is CITIZENSHIP/PATRIOTISM. This involves the quality of an individual’s response to membership in a community. The district’s quote for the month is, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” Please join with us in November in promoting citizenship and patriotism to build these character traits in our future leaders here at Cape Elementary School.

Student birthdays are very important to recognize and students are recognized on the morning news and in their classrooms. If treats are brought to school, You must notify the teacher prior to bringing them in. We want to make sure you bring in enough for the class and you are sensitive to the allergies and special needs in each classroom. Treats must be store bought with ingredients label visible. Celebrations involving balloons, favors, toys and flowers are not acceptable items during school hours.

Invitations to private student birthday parties must be given to the entire class or all boys or all girls if passed out at school.

Suggested items:

• Mini Cupcakes
• Stickers, pencils, notepads
• Cookies
• Pretzels
• Cheese Sticks
• Yogurt

Although we appreciate your child’s excitement for their birthday, the school setting is not the appropriate place for a birthday celebration. Keep the treat simple and easy for staff to distribute and clean up.

Cape Elementary’s “Lady Seahawks” will be collecting items for unhoused members of Southwest Florida as a community outreach project.

We will be collecting the following donations:

Grades K-2: Travel sized toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and travel sized tissues

Grades 3-5: New Socks, Bug Spray, baby wipes, and reusable water bottles

All donations will go to the organization “People Helping People of SWFL” and will go directly into our community.

If you are able, please send it with your child from November 6-November 17.
