Principal's Message
Dear Elger Bay Families,
I hope this message finds you well. Firstly, I would like to remind everyone that there will be no school on Monday, January 15th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the contributions of a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, equality, and civil rights. We encourage you to take a moment on this day to talk with your children about the importance of Dr. King's legacy.
Additionally, this week at Elger Bay, we will be focusing on an essential aspect of our civic responsibility – elections and voting. On Tuesday, January 16th, we will recognize Temperance and Good Citizenship Day, during which students will have the opportunity to learn about the democratic process, the significance of voting, and the responsibilities that come with being active and informed citizens.
Teachers will be incorporating engaging and age-appropriate activities into their lesson plans to help students understand the democratic values that shape our society. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home, reinforcing the importance of active civic participation and the impact it has on our community.
Wishing you a restful and meaningful Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Warm regards,
Tim Dickinson
Principal

Winter weather
We encourage families to be thoughtful of road conditions when frost or fog exists but do not result in school delays or closures, particularly among our student drivers. For your information, here is a summary of how our decisions are made as to whether we delay or cancel school:
Safety first! We consider the safety of our children on buses, our student drivers, families driving and walking to school, and the safety of our staff, including our bus drivers.
Road inspections. When there is a concern about school starting on time, our staff drives the roads throughout the district as early as 3 a.m. We take photos, check road conditions, monitor traffic, look for hazards, etc. We typically drive the roads multiple times in the early morning hours to determine if conditions are improving, worsening, or staying the same.
Communicating. We strive to decide about the school day by 5 a.m. Once the decision is made, we begin communicating with families and staff.
