Principal's Message
09/01/2022
It's the second month of school! Time truly does fly when we're having fun! We have already had our first dance, fall sports games, club rush, and many activities to kick off this school year! This Friday we have our first Senior Event - the Senior Sunrise! Seniors are invited to come to school at 6-810 to watch the sunset with their friends. It's the beginning of "the one last time" events.
This past month we have had a flurry of activity and learning. We are in the midst of football season and have an energized, spirited crowd and team! Walking through classrooms, I watched experiments on pigments, discussions about current events, drawing of intricate patterns, and could enjoy hearing live music at any given time walking through the quad during class. Our students are learning and engaging every day. Our teachers continue to raise the bar and our young scholars are achieving in so many ways!
Tomorrow (9/1) is make-up picture day! For students that did not take their ID and yearbook picture at registration will be called out of class tomorrow to take pictures. Please remind your students that they have to show their ID when asked by any staff member. We are trying to maintain safety on campus and make sure we know who is on campus at all times.
Tomorrow (9/1) our PIQE program begins. Please see the flyer below. The Parent Institute for Quality Education is open to all families to learn how to navigate the school experience and prepare your student to be college and career ready when they leave West High! This meeting is held every Thursday in the school library at 6 pm! Day care is provided, so please join us and learn about ways you can support your student from home!
For the families that were unable to attend back to school night, some of the information presented included the different resources and programs we have on campus available for our students. I shared that students that have a connection to school do better in school - both academically and socially. Please encourage your child to find some connection - a club, a sport, an activity - we have so many different opportunities for connection and culture building. We have an afterschool program sponsored by The Club that has homework help and many other activities. Come by the office for an application, or stop by G3 afterschool.
As a school, our mission is to provide students with a safe, rigorous, and engaging learning environment everyday. One way we are going to measure this goal is by reducing our overall F rate. We encourage students and families to check grades, encourage our students to turn in their work, and ask for help when they needed. We want our students to learn to be advocates for themselves and be proud of their own success.
Thank you again, families, for sharing your student with us! We are looking forward to watching our students grow and thrive!
Until next time...

For those of you on Facebook, follow Officer Gomez (an SRO from a different district/school)
He has a running blog of issues faced in a high school environment. A lot of the issues faced around the nation, are parallel to ones we see in our own school. He has some great parent information!
Site Safety Reminders
When coming on to campus, please check in with the security officer. They will direct you to where you need to go. If you are picking up your child early or clearing absences, please check in with security and go to the attendance windows. For all other needs, please come into the office.
