Go Bees!
Message from the Principal
Dear Berkeley Bees,
It’s that time: Back to School! It feels like just yesterday we were wishing you all a happy summer break, and now, we are less than two weeks away from the start of a brand new school year! We are so excited to welcome our families back. We can’t wait to hear laughter in the halls and hear discourse in the classrooms! Your children bring this building to life!
As the new school year approaches, I wanted to take a moment to remind you of the excitement and growth that awaits us in the upcoming academic journey.
The start of a new school year brings with it a sense of anticipation and endless possibilities. We are thrilled to welcome back our incredible scholars and eager to see their shining personalities display our PEAK values: Perseverance, Excellence, Adventure, and Kindness. Our school community thrives on these values, and we are committed to nurturing them in every student.
To prepare for the new year, here are some tips to help your child get ready for a successful start:
Complete Registration: If you haven't already done so, please ensure that your child's registration is complete. This is a crucial step in providing updated information and ensuring a smooth beginning to the school year.
Back to School Bash: Our teachers are waiting to see their students! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 8th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, for our Back to School Bash! Join us for a fun-filled event where you can meet teachers, get important information, and connect with fellow families.
Get your uniforms ready! Uniforms promote a sense of community and school pride. Please make sure that uniforms fit. You can order more online (info previously sent). We also still have many used or new (from previous vendors) sweatshirts at the building for 5 dollars or less. If you need help, please reach out. Uniform top, navy blue pants, skirts, shorts. No jeans please.
We value the partnership between home and school and know that together, we will experience a year filled with growth. We encourage open communication and invite you to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have.
We look forward to seeing our Berkeley Bees shine brightly as they embody the PEAK values and reach new heights in the upcoming school year.
With warmest regards,
Aime Cano

First Days of School!
1st - 5th: August 14th
Arrival & dismissal :
Arrival is at 8:00 am. After 8:15 am scholars must be signed in at the front office. Instruction will begin promptly at 8:20 am.
If you need to excuse an absence you can go to our website and report an absence in the top right corner.
If scholars need to be picked up before dismissal, it can be done anytime before 2:50 pm. After 3:00 no adults are allowed in the building, as we prepare for dismissal. If you need to pick up your scholar at that time, please let the office know before 2:30 pm so they can have your scholar at the office ready for you.
During dismissal, we ask that no one cuts the carline. Doing so will disrupt the order in which students are dismissed, will slow down the carline, and will leave you waiting longer to pick up your scholar.
Additionally, we ask that families do not cut carline through the post office parking line or park in the post office to pick up scholars from our walker line. The intersection by the post office gets very busy during dismissal/arrival, and we want to be respectful to the post office.
For ECE families, please make sure you’re entering the ECE carline from the east side. This helps prevent a traffic jam for both ECE and regular carlines.
If you lose any of your car tags, please let us know! We are more than happy to print you new copies.
We expect the carline and walker line to run a little slower than normal in the first few weeks as we readjust to routines, but your cooperation will make the process much smoother!
Safety
In order to enforce school safety throughout the year, we will be asking all visitors who will go beyond the lobby to get a visitor’s badge. Make sure you have your ID ready when you sign in at the front office.
Important note for the First Day of School:
As we eagerly approach the first day of school, we want to take a moment to emphasize the paramount importance of ensuring a safe and secure environment for all our students, staff, and visitors. We are excited to welcome our students back to the classroom and understand that the first day can be both exciting and emotional for parents and children alike.
In light of our commitment to safety, we kindly request your understanding and cooperation regarding an essential protocol. For the first day of school and the initial period thereafter, we are implementing a measure to limit access beyond the front door of the building. While we truly appreciate the desire of parents to enter the classrooms, we must prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
We fully understand and acknowledge that parents may want to accompany their children into the classrooms and bid them farewell in person. However, we sincerely request that you say your goodbyes at the front door, where teachers and staff will be ready to receive and assist the students.
By adhering to this arrangement, we can effectively manage the flow of students, ensure a smooth transition, and minimize potential disruptions during the critical early days of the academic year. Rest assured that our teachers and staff are well-prepared to provide a warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment within the classrooms.
We wholeheartedly appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this safety measure or any other aspect of the school's operations, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you for your understanding and collaboration.
Communication
Effective communication between the school and families is crucial for fostering a supportive and productive learning environment. By staying connected, we can work collaboratively to ensure the best possible learning experience for your child. To facilitate this vital connection, here are some consistent and constant ways we will keep you updated:
- Talking Points: This platform serves as a hub for all school-wide messages and upcoming events. You can also use it to connect with our administrative staff, front office, and teachers, reaching out with any questions or comments you may have.
- Monthly Newsletter: Expect a digital newsletter every month, filled with school updates and exciting highlights of the happenings at Berkeley. It's a great way to stay informed about all the wonderful things taking place in our school community.
- Friday Folders: On Fridays, your child will bring home important fliers containing classroom and school-wide updates. In case anything goes missing, you can access our online school folder, where copies of all school-wide fliers are available.
- Principal Chat: Once a month, our principal holds a morning chat, warmly inviting all families to participate. This provides an excellent opportunity to engage with the principal and discuss both the school's successes and areas for growth.
- Phone: In case of unexcused student absences or any urgent matters, we will contact you via phone. Similarly, if you need assistance or support, do not hesitate to call our front office.
Updates on Clubs:
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for taking the time to fill out the interest form for clubs a few weeks ago.
We are delighted to announce that after careful consideration, we have finalized an exciting variety of clubs at Berkeley for this school year. These clubs are designed to offer our students enriching experiences and foster their interests and passions.
However, we have a small update to share with you. While most of the clubs will commence as planned, one of our esteemed club vendors, offering daily clubs for ECE-5th grades, will begin their sessions on October 2nd. This brief delay is to ensure that they are fully prepared to provide an exceptional and immersive club experience for our students.
On a brighter note, we have some wonderful news! We will be offering a selection of K-5th clubs starting on August 21st. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information about these fantastic opportunities, which will be revealed during our back-to-school bash!
