Coloma Junior High
Family Newsletter for the Week of 12/4/23
End of Semester Approaching
Moving up to the Junior High includes many changes and the end of the semester is another one of those differences between elementary and secondary. At the end of the semester classes will have either an end of unit assessment, project or exam. Each class may be structured slightly differently based on content, grade level and academic appropriateness. Please have a conversation with your child about what the end of the semester might look like for each of their classes. They can begin to prepare now by reviewing material, ensuring that all of their practice assignments have been submitted and staying focused in class.
Applying Math in Real Life Situations
Our 8th Grade Pre-Algebra students spent time with Ms. Kimmerly on Friday using augmented reality to demonstrate slope and intercept. This lesson allowed students to utilize new technology to apply it to their current standards in class. What a fun way to make connections!
Upcoming Go Green
In an effort to encourage students to stay on track with assignments, we periodically hold incentives. Our next Go Green incentive is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 8th. All assignments must be turned in by Thursday, Dec. 7th at 8am. You can support your child by logging into PowerSchool to check their current grades and missing assignments.
Kindness and Compassion Drive
A big thank you to all of our Coloma Comet families for your support during this year's Kindness and Compassion Drive! With your support we were able to collect non-perishable food items as well as personal care items for Hope Resources. We were also able to collect toys for the Mosaic Wonderland Toy Store that will allow families in financial crisis to shop for their children for Christmas. Thank you all so much for your kind and giving hearts!
