Principal's Message

OMS Families,

Books really did spark imagination last night at the Family Reading Night! Families enjoyed sharing books together by flashlight in the coziness of the Kindergarten rooms. They made fish puppets, drew their family members, and designed leaf people and animals. In some sessions, working with technology entertained family members as they completed digital puzzles and participated in Nearpod interactive presentations. All attendees had an opportunity to hear directly from published illustrators Jacqueline Alcantara and Sean Dove. A big thank you to all of the teachers who ran sessions, parent volunteers who cut out lots of graphics, and the PTA who sponsored our illustrators!

We can't believe our Fall Break is already here! We wish all of you and your families a wonderful week at home. School resumes on Monday, December 2nd.

MAP Testing

The Winter MAP testing window is December 2nd-December 20th. All students grades 2nd-5th will be taking the MAP testing in both reading and math.

Get Burbed Challenge!

Do you love to draw and flex those creative muscles? Enter the t-shirt and poster design contest for the 9th annual ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge! Any District 25 student can participate! The winning design will be featured on the promo posters and race day t-shirt!

Author Visit: Jacqueline Alcantra

Students in kindergarten, first, and second grades were excited to meet Jacqueline Alcantara, the local artist who created the illustrations for the acclaimed book, The Field, by Baptiste Paul. The book highlights a pick-up soccer game on the island of St. Lucia. Ms. Alcantara walked students through the process of creating illustrations for a book. She taught us that illustrators have to do research to understand exactly what characters or a new place might look like. Book Sponsorship in the LMC

The Library Media Center staff would like to thank the Olive-Mary Stitt families who visited the LMC during Family Reading Night and sponsored new books for our library collection. Our total count of donated books was 103! Also, we had some students who won autographed copies of new books. Thank you to all of our families for your support! We will use your donations to purchase additional materials for our library.

Science Club - Winter Session!

Science Club is returning for a winter session with new projects and old favorites. Science Club meets on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 in the window hallway outside the LMC. From the Nurse's Office: Hygiene Reminder

The Thanksgiving and winter breaks are fun times filled with family and friend gatherings, play dates, sleepovers and vacations. Unfortunately, these are also opportune times for children to share head lice. This is a good time to remind you that head lice are a year-round nuisance and ask that you monitor your child for head lice. By making this part of your child’s routine hygiene, you help to prevent the spread of lice at school.
